my 55 gallon has been up and running for almost 6 months now. im thinking of adding coral at this point. maybe some kenya trees or pulsing xenia but due to some mistakes ive made in the past im trying to figure out a good quarantine solution before i get my first coral. my question is do i need to quarantine my coral in a separate tank for a few months or is a coral dip like coral rx sufficient to rid any parasites that may be attatched to the coral? thanks in advance.

thanks for the reply. thats kind of what i had gathered from what ive read but ive seen some conflicting info on the need to quarantine as well. thanks again.

Yes qt. Dip (no matter the brand) only kills adult pests. Any eggs are NOT killed due to the egg's shell. Dip also does not kill the pest algea. A QT is easy, I used to just dip, I learned to QT because it's expensive to constantly get rid of aglae, like bryopsis.

My QT is a spare tank, with matching salinity (use old water from water changes), no lights to start with (but recently I was given some, not necessary), and a power head. (I have also used an air line on high for circulation) corals will not die for short times with no direct light. Get empty frag plugs. Dip new coral, Pop off the coral put on a new plug. QT, Dip coral again place in display.
