I have that same hood in my 100g and I love it. I need to buy those reflectors though and mine has the 96watt attinics with it. I picked it up from Raf used . It has made HUGE differance in growth on everything.

One word of advise though , that ballast gets HOT , I mean REALLLLLY hot if you can leave itoutside the stand. I had to put a fan in there to keep the air moving.

Congrats !

Yeah, this ballast is really hot. I'm gonna build a stand for it this weekend. Is your's loud?
Mine's pretty loud. I had some Hamilton e-ballasts a while back, they were really quiet. I'm checking to see if it quites down over time. If not, it's just too loud for my liking. I'll have to switch to the e-ballast.

That place is great. I just picked up a 24Gal Aqua Pod W/150 HQI for $289. That is $40 cheaper than even Foster & Smith's price.

Big thumbs up for The Coral Reef shop and also Your Reef they are the ONLY places I will purchase from right now.

Brian is a great guy, really comes through that he's more concerned about your customer satisfaction than squeezing a buck out of you.

FoothillCorals: Couldnt agree more, two stores both with the hobbyist in mind. And me liven high on the hog smack dab in the middle of 'em both!:D

Mine is quite and can not hear it over the pumps and fans. The only time it makes a noise is when it first starts up with a rumbling that is going within seconds or if the bulbs are not firing due to still be hot.

I have a sump project coming up and I plan on doing the same building a rack with a few computer fans to help cool it.

So it doesn't make a constant "noticeable" humming sound?

Mine makes noise on start up too.

Hopefully it's just messed up, and a good set would be quiet.

I'll second (or third?..) that about CRS, they have great customer service! I have always had positive experiences with them. We are very fortunate to have the selection of reef shops we have in Sac.
Maybe a little too fortunate... way to easy to spend money :D

I went in there for the first time a couple weeks ago, and I like the set up. It kind of reminded me of aquatic gallery down if SF... They had good prices on most their corals, and the coral looked pretty healthy. I went looking for LR, and found some I like, but I really overpaid for it. I didn't look at the price untill after I picked out the couple pieces...$7.99/lb for uncured LR.....but since I was only getting a couple lbs, and I didn't want to go all over town I paid it...over all I though one of the better shops in town though.

Here's an update. I built a stand today, and I think I'm going to place the ballast on top, and have an auto top-off underneath.... but for now, the ballast stays below.
