I was asked in another thread about what kinda corals i am planning on !
i have zero marine aquarium experience , looking for beginer corals like
zoanthids mushrooms etc.... Would it be best to go with lps or sps as a beginner?

I would recommend LPS like hammers and frogspawns, torches, plates, chalices, favia. That way you can branch into SPS when your tank matures.
Zoas are fine but be aware they are somewhat toxic so you need to have good hygiene practices if you keep, them.

they aren't as bad as palys, but you don't want to touch one and then rub your eye for instance. Good hygiene and they are fine to keep.

Duhhhh missed by what you meant by toxic !
I hate when I'm new to the hobby and get misleading info which I thought I read online other than here ! Thanks for clearing that up :)

if you really wanted to start sps, birdsnest is a good option. i have one, and it grows really fast and seems very hardy

My suggestion is to start with corals that occupy the lower part of the tank, such as LPS as suggested. I like the idea of getting an LPS like a hammer, or torch because it forces you to manage the water for Calcium, ALK and Magnesium right off the bat. It's better to learn how to do this in the beginning rather than later, like i did. LPS are forgiving and relatively low maintenance, plus they add motion and bright color to the new tank.

One you get the hang of lower living corals you can move up to high light high flow corals that need a little more care, like SPS - the wimps of the tank...lol

if you want sps, at some point you are going to need to dose. I have a tank full of softies and a few lps. hammer, frogspawn, pictinia, and a pagoda cup. 120 gals. and I don't dose anything. two years in and so far everything is good.

Figured I'd need to dose as well from what I've read . Is something I can add to a sump later or should I plan on it now ? As of right now planning at a later date to add dosing equipment
