Coral Tank from Canada (1350gal Display Tank)

Another thought is reefdynamics, formerly euroreef. I haven't had any other recirc. skimmers, but both of mine have been trouble free and about bullet proof external skimmers except when I was playing with modding them myself and cooked a pump. With the exception of the metric/standard slip fitting on the 1262 pumps, everything is readily available at just about any LFS if there is a problem as well.
Maybe not the latest fad in skimmers, but from what I've read very few people ever complain about them.

Mr Wilson,

Torsten has been experimenting with his Abyzz pumps for skimmers. Have you thought about using that?.

Or just going for a straight Bubbleking?.

Mo

The skimmer in question is for a 100 gallon coral holding system. The Abyzz pump would literally blow the lid off of a skimmer for a 100 gallon tank. It would also blow the lid off of the budget :)

I like the build quality of Bubbleking and the design is more or less the same as its contemporaries. The problem is in reliability of replacement parts and customer service :(

Whoops...should read more closely :P. For the MARS system, I lean towards NW style skimmers. Can't go wrong w/Deltec or BK that is available to us Canucks as well as customer support. My experience w/SWC and Reef Octopus has been less than favorable, but that was about 3 years ago.

Yeah, I thought a becket with a Panworld/Blueline 100 pump was a little much for 100 gallons :)

Deltec has Canadian support, but I gave up on BK support. The skimmers don't come with instructions, or online PDFs, and they don't respond to (9) emails. I tried contacting Royal Exclusive directly for the pumps for Peter's tank but they weren't interested in responding to any of my emails. Did I mention I won't be using a Bubbleking skimmer :)

I am one of those people that don't know the valvue of a recirculating feed pump skimmer. If you could tell me then I am positive I could comprehend:lol:

A one-pump (non-recirculating) system mixes air and water at a rate governed by the demand for air. A two-pump (recirculating) skimmer uses one pump for making bubbles and a second to feed the appropriate amount of water through the device for a 2 minute dwell (contact) time.

Most manufacturers will not tell you, or simply don't know what the through put is of their non-recirculating skimmers. In my opinion the value lies in controlling through put and bubble production rather than settling for what you get.

just catching up I know we are on to skimmer, but just to remind you, try a large reflector when using stray lights plasma, it is much much better. Also, keep in my you will need supplemental lighting. For the system we are planning on after the move, even if we use the sfiligoi pendent we are still going to supplement the nightime viewing with ecoxotic stunner strips.

Mr. Wilson

Very well said.
Lets hope every one following this tread take note!

We might look into a bigger reflector for the two plasma lights for the mangrove walls so we can use just one.

Okay readers, it's time to become contributors. We need some suggestions for an external protein skimmer for the Mars invert system. The sump is too small and too buried to allow for an internal (in sump) skimmer. I was ready to order an external ATB cone, but just found out they are discontinued :(

ATB discontinued ???? :hmm6: Did you call Anton or aren't available in N-America?

I have a huge ATB deluxe external and it is absolutely outa-sight the best skimmer of all that I have had over the years.

If Anton can't supply, i'd put BK ahead of Deltec ... still using old pump technology compared to the purpose built volutes.

Tone :wildone:

Im a fan of the SRO 2000. I have the SSS model (super sump saver) due to limited space but it is a great skimmer for the price and parts seem to be readily available. It is my 3rd skimmer (best by far) and handling a well stocked 125 so I would imagine it would handle nicely on a 100 gallon coral holding system.

Ooop!, I overlooked that it was for a smaller system.

I would still choose a smaller BK. The motor block can be sourced from the common Laguna pump at any garden center and I would buy a spare impellor. Nothing else to go wrong!.....

ATB are probably just as good as well!.

This is the skimmer my dogs caused me to shatter glad to hear it would have worked well :hmm4:

Ya know I am hearing more and more abotu companies that will not respond to e-mails or calls from customers. Business must be booming if they cannot respond to e-mails.

Let's see 9 e-mails no response, comment on major aquarium board abotu their lack of response, wonder how much business they will be loosing now. The world has gotten smaller but some companies just don't get that I guess. Customer service has gone by the way side for a lot of companies unless you are ordering tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment from them I guess.

Going direct to RE is a challenge as Proline is their NA distributor and have a very close working relationship. Not returning your Q's is rather disappointing. I have to get my BKs or anything that "goes through" Proline from the LFSs. Any issues I've had been quickly resolved.

Deltecs from Xenia (CDN distributor), I cannot comment but the issues I've had with the first gen Tunze NanoStreams took a bit longer to resolve with semi satisfactory results.

Someone mentioned the MRC ORCA...that's another skimmer I'd highly consider.

asm works good simple to use but not really external.

shawn i do recall you making a skimmer many moons ago, that brings me to mind

" chico"

WARNER MARINE might have an external skimmer.

you can always put a simmer in a tank

oh ya ETS

I was offered a 6ft chico made skimmer with dual venturies for nothing, but the guy kept flip-flopping and it still stands in a utility closet unused because they converted to freshwater. I did get the pump from it for some reason though. Amazing how small this thread makes the world feel...
