We love pictures their even better when you have such a wide and wonderful subject. Thank you Mr. Wilson

Peter I know you are burning the candle at both ends with this build and life,so I hope I am not asking for too much. A while ago you mentioned you were also building a home theater in the basement I would love to see pictures of the end result and an idea of what equipment you ended up with? Thanks for considering my selfish request.:D

Peter and Shawn and company,
The reef really is amazing and truly exotic. Those pictures look unreal and I am sure it doesn't really do justice for the true level of beauty.

Great job,
I and everyone else on reef central is impressed and in awe.
Thanks for helping us all dream
Rob

I will in the next couple of days.....there is yet another renovation going on in the theater....but soon, for sure soon.

DROOOOOOOOL!

There are merits to the ATS system, such as a shallow growing area and more intense lighting, but the methodology has been cursed with misinformation in both generations of its application.

I suspect strongly that the big key to an ATS is the gas exchange. Even though you can pack a lot of CO2 into water (as carbonic acid, and bicarbonate, and carbonate ions) you still have to deal with diffusion gradients, but with the thin film of water moving at high (relatively) speeds over the algal tissues you allow the CO2 that is abundant in the air to diffuse in and the O2 to diffuse out much more rapidly, which helps you overcome that hinderance from La Chatliers principle and run those photosynthetic reactions more rapidly.

awsome pics MR Wilson and great job on the tank for the team. also thanks for all the info on criptic and refugiums. I'm curently setting up my first large tank and all the info on this thread realy helps.

I have to admit, I have yet to post here on RC but have read your ENTIRE thread. So I must say: Job well done Peter. You have a great team behind you, and I'm positive your tank will be a benchmark of success to multitudes of other hobbyists. I have been thrilled to watch you put this system together and am right there with the crowd wishing I could do the same right now! Anyway, I'm sure I'll be posting here much more often and am looking forward to your progress as the tank matures and improvements to your systems are made.

ok so i havent had too much time to keep updated with my work schedule, but the pictures look amazing,, so im sure i missed it what brand of led fixtures are those that you chose to go with?

Also, I feel sorry for the poor saps who will come along in 10-15 years to find all the photobucket hotlinks dead :/

Orphek. I obsessively bugged mr. Wilson to form some relationship with the company after I had determined that it was the best product I could find. This apparently can be a problem on reef central for him to comment now so I will have to play a little game on this specific topic and answer as best I can. The issue here however is like asking the receptionist in a car dealership to diagnose a mechanical problem on your car. I will try my best however.

I suggest that specific brand related questions be directed by PM to Mr. Wilson as his knowledge in these areas is simply unparalleled. Note I said 'BRAND', general questions on the technology are not only appropriate but welcomed.

My contribution as an innocent non-invested hobbyist is that after trying many other brands this was the one I was prepared to invest in. I had probably spent over 30,000 in other lighting products but the Orphek line stole the show for me. I am very excited about some of the improvements coming down the line but my engineering knowledge in this domain is sadly lacking so I'm afraid the technical descriptions will be a little slow from me. However if anyone is contemplating an investment then my advice is for you to back channel the specifics to Mr. Wilson. What works for me as a best practice in this build may not necessarily be best in your build but I have confidence in Mr. Wilson's integrity in objectively answering any questions in this regard.

This is our Hospital ICU. It is completely separate from any other tank in the system and is even placed on the other side of the room to prevent any contamination either way. It is also relatively close to the sink and maintenance facilities as the tank has to be easy to clean from one session to another. The tank if my memory serves me correctly is 135 gallons but I'm sure Mr. Wilson will refine that number if needed.

any updates on the auto-feeder progress?

I just cannot engineer a reasonable system for things like mysis and brineshrimp using an under-tank setup...

shawn nice pictures looks like peters got some competition.

a note on the mangroves,i see some burnt tips on the leaves.
i have found by clipping those tips the plant becomes bushier and the plant becomes stronger. you may want to experiment with a plant and see if theres a difference.
i have tested for nitrates both above and taken from the mud.
water above the mud was undetectable, water from mud strained through a coffee filter was off the charts,i do believe this was feeding the roots of mangroves.
out of curiosity how much water is being changed, weekly or monthly.

First, thank you very much for the kind words of support. It's great to be a part of your first RC post and we welcome you publicly to a terrific community. I sincerely believe I am just at the half way point in this build so your investment in staying with this group should hopefully grow in the future.

Thanks again to you and the 'crowd'.

Thank you Vic for the advice on the mangroves.

Normal water change procedures call for approx 100 to 125 Gal per week for the display tank and probably 50 gal spread over the three mars bars and hospital tank every two weeks. Lately we increased it to 200 gal with a series of other steps to decrease the phosphates in the display tank with some degree of success.

We are still working on a number of initiatives with respect to food prep and delivery. Mr. Wilson will be elaborating when we think we have something of value to share with this community.

Macna

Macna

Even though it is in the strangest place in the world and the likelihood that there is not one decent seafood restaurant within a hundred miles I will be joining Mr. Wilson at the upcoming MACNA for the conference. I should be arriving by a pretend airplane in time for a dinner or drink (likely both) Thurs late afternoon.

I am looking forward to catching up with members of this thread so please make sure you approach me with the code phrase...."hey, you owe me a drink from last year".
