One of the first things I did when I got my BC29 was to replace the stock lighting with LEDs. I didn't toss the old stuff and was going through it the other day and was noticing the LED bars and wondering if I could use them in a project, maybe for a lunar simulator. So I did some reverse engineering on the driver board and found they were connected to a 5v regulator and going through a 350ma constant current driver. Figured that shouldn't be too difficult to deal with. So I got some LDD-350H drivers and hooked them up with a PWM signal. Hooked up an adjustable external power supply (rated to 500ma), set the voltage to 5v, 50% PWM signal, powered it all up and..... nothing.
The LDD has a 9v input requirement and I knew that. Just wanted to see what would happen. Kind of strange in that the specs say minimum in is 9v and it will use 3v. Yet the minimum output voltage to the LED string is 2v. Where did the other 4v go? Well, doesn't really matter. I turned up the voltage to 12v and the LEDs came on - dimly. Adjusting the PWM doesn't change the brightness of them. Set PWM to 0 and they go off. They turn on from 1% - 99%. At 100% PWM, they turn off again.
So I was wondering if anyone had ever worked with these things? I like them because they are in a nice fixture so would be easy to mount. They really don't get bright enough to do anything though. I'm not sure if they are wired in parallel or series since they are potted into the holder.
Any suggestions?
