Tim - You want to set up some time tonight to get some RODI water to your house or to move my unit to your house so we can make water before tomorrow night?

I can throw you a heater and pump from my bucket to use for tonight/tomorrow till you get your unit and order in a pump/heater from amazon or something. I wont be home till around 3 today and have a few things to do but can. I just hope I didn't overly bolt my RODI unit to my cement wall so I can take it down easily. HA HA.

I ordered the pump"¦ will be here tomorrow. I will probably just pickup a heater from PetSmart or Petco today so I don't have to wait for it or expedite. BTW, the pump on Dr's Foster & Smith was more expensive EVEN with the 25% discount, AND would have taken longer to get to me even with expedited shipping!! F that!

It would be great to pickup some RO/DI water from you tonight! I have 3 x 5g buckets with lids that I can use to transport, so would only be two trips. No sense in tearing down your RODI since mine should be here tomorrow anyway. LOL I appreciate the offer though! I will take you up on the pump so I can mix some salt tonight.

My wife and I are going to pickup a new puppy this afternoon, so no idea what kind of wrench that will throw in the works. LOL

Also, while I'm still going to drain and clean the tank today, the water is actually "looking" a LOT better today. Saturday night I used a scrubber and cleaned the inside of the display tank and back wall to remove all the slime coating and little crustacean-like things, and today it looks a lot better. I'm still going to dismantle and clean the hell out of the thing though!

I don't mean to be a debbi downer but green field puppies are notorious puppy mill breeder. Make sure you do your research...

Healthy dogs come out of there but still not an excuse for the practices...

Nonetheless good luck. At least it will go to a good home

Tim, congrats on the Apex, the puppy, and glad you had fun at MACNA. I wonder how it was compared to RAP in NY a few months back (I'm sure soulpatch can fill me in since we met up at RAP).

Way to cute for its own good! But then again their all cute as puppies. I have 2 Newfoundlands, a lab, and pug, because they were oh so cute as puppies. Guess who the alpha male is in that pack.

Went to Lowes last night and picked up a three pack of those battery operated LED's, I can see in my cabinet!!! Thanks for the tip  No Idea why I hadn't thought of it already, since I've been thinking about adding some lights in there.

I sort of forgot how much work puppies are. LOL. We got our 11 year old black lab as a puppy"¦ but it's been 11 years since having to go through raising a puppy. It's all coming back to us now!! Duchess, the new puppy, is only 8 weeks old, so it'll be a long road ahead. We also had to puppy-proof the house throughout the day. Fun 8-|

Glad to help out with the LEDs! Now I have to re-wire my stand since I won the Apex Gold on Sunday. I am also prepping for the TBS package that arrives tomorrow.

Yeah Tim congrats on the Apex man! I heard them call the number and was like "hmmm, I think that's Tim's number!" ha! I just glad someone I knew (and would use it) won.....and I got a free lunch out of it too (thanks again btw).

MACNA was a good time, was cool to hang out with you and soulpatch for a bit.

Definitely great to meet you Cabo. I'm sure we'll stay in touch on here.

I am close to leaving for the airport to pickup part one of my TBS package! Hopefully I remember to take pictures while I'm there.

Soulpatch will be coming over today after 6pm to help me look for bad hitchhikers and check out the rock. He also lent me a pump to get my saltwater mixed up for today, and GAVE me a 10g QT tank, HOB filter for it, and an electronic thermometer to replace my glass Mercury one I had in my display tank. LOL

Last night I drained my tank and am cleaning it with vinegar in preparation for tonight.

LESSON LEARNED: Do NOT use tap water with API Stress Coat+ to dechlorinate the tap water to use as top off!! There was all kinds of weird slime coat and particulates in my water.

Oh yeah, another update: My BRS 6 Stage Universal Water Saver Plus RO/DI is on the UPS truck to be delivered today. It should have been here Thursday, or at the very least Friday, but apparently there was some delay on UPS's side. I got in touch with BRS today and they are refunding my shipping charge, but I also noticed my unit was on sale yesterday (Labor Day) and they are refunding me the difference on that too ($33)!! Nice.

Since I didn't have my RODI yet, I bought 20 x 1g jugs of Distilled water so I'd at least have saltwater to put in my tank for tonight. It only cost me ~$17 at Acme, and while not ideal, it should get me by for now. Once I can start making RODI I will do enough water changes to replace pretty much all of it.

LOL, nah"¦ I should be able to handle the RODI. ;)

Just called Southwest, my boxes are there, so heading to pick them up now!!

w00t!!

Thanks Richard from TBS!

Okay, just a VERY quick update until I have time to write up a decent post.

The first shipment of my TBS package arrived yesterday and I picked it up at the airport. It truly was a simple and easy process to pick it up. Since I had never picked up freight like this before I was a little apprehensive about it, but I called Southwest to very the boxes were really there, and got directions to the building. Once I got there, the guy found my invoice, I paid, and then he brought the boxes out on the dock for me to place in my car.

Soulpatch came over around 6:30pm to help me look for bad hitchhikers, which we found a few, and the rock and sand were in my tank by about 8pm.

I still have a LOT of work to do:
  • Mount RO/DI and start making water
  • Replace Apex Jr with new Apex Gold and rewire my stand - This will take the most time
  • Probably rework placement of equipment in my back sump. Not sure I like where I had things.

Cabo also told me he has a sump that he used to use on his BioCube he would sell me, so I am considering that as a possibility"¦ but may be a ways off for now.

I think if you go any farther in terms of gear or add ons you've lost entirely the point of a BC and would've been better off buying a 30 cube. I know you're excited to jump in to saltwater, but this is upgrade talk and you don't even have fish or coral yet! [emoji6]

Enjoy the AIO simplicity while you've got it. I think different setups (AIO vs sump, refugium vs no refugium, MH vs. T5 vs. LED, etc) make you a more versatile reefer who will better understand what works for you and what doesn't as well as what you want when you do upgrade.

It's a fair point. This BioCube will most likely stay in the living room for a LONG time, and I know my wife would rather I keep it simple and clean looking. Actually, she commented again how she hates the stock hood and would rather it look like a piece of furniture, but other than possibly changing out the stand/hood, I may keep it simple.

Eventually I will refinish the basement and will have plenty of space for bigger tanks and different setups. ;)

Well, if you do go down that path (and now I'm encouraging you), you can build a custom canopy to match the stand and remove the stock hood. It would give you room to cool the tank via an open back or some fans in the back as well as hang and conceal a nicer light fixture, like an LED lamp or a 150w metal halide.

LOL. Crazy house. Tonight is the night we have 3 of the 5 kids that need to be in 3 different places all at the same time. Trying to get everyone in bed, plus my wife didn't send me the pics yet and she's at some friends party.

Probably tomorrow. I haven't been getting great sleep with the new puppy not wanting to be crated at night, so not sure I'm long for this world.
