Coralife Chiller not a chillin'

Hey,
I have two new Coralife Aqua Chill 1/10hp chillers for a new set up here at AMW. I have one on a JBJ 24 gallon nano and while the chiller is running, its not chilling even though set points, etc are all set properly. I have a Hagen 802 powerhead running water through the chiller, so water flow in/out shouldn't be a problem. I took the first unit off and put on the "back up" chiller and its doing the same thing-running but not a chillin'

Has anyone heard of any problems like this with these chillers and any possible solutions? Of course this is for a new display that opens this weekend...
Thanks,
Joe

The first thing I look at when trouble shooting chiller problems is to make sure I actually have good flow rates through the chiller by checking the output side, just in case there is a restriction somewhere in the plumbing after the pump. While those powerheads are good, they aren't meant for pressure applications and it's possible you don't have enough flow, I prefer to go with something beefier like a supreme mag drive. Next up is checking the controller, if it's a remote one by swapping it with a known good controller. If the above prove not to be a problem and the unit runs, than it's likely a compressor/refrigerant problem and calls for a refrigeration guy to fix.

Should you not get it running, I've got a small Pacific Coast unit that I'm not using at the moment. If you need to borrow it, give me a call. I'll PM you my cell number.

Joe,

I recently had a JBJ nano chiller fail on me. The unit would be on and stay on but no chilling. I called JBJ and they said that the fan motor, which kicks on the compressor had a problem. I disconnected the unit and the fan was rattling around inside. These smaller chillers seem to be a bit more delicate, fans are plastic attached to metal which is not always the best combo.

Thanks Bill,
You are now officially plan B.

I think we're seeing a fine example of the lack of quality control on some items leaving China these days...

If you need to go to plan B, holler :D I've got to run up Island to my parents later today, so the earlier the better if needed ;)
