Coralife Super Skimmer 125

Does anyone know how to quiet the air tube that goes into the bubble diffuser? Every 30 seconds or so, it gets a big air bubble going into the diffuser and makes a loud gurgle. Like if you were to put a glass upside down in water and then turned the glass over to release the air pocket that was in the glass. This is the type of annoying noise I have just recently experienced. I have taken the pump off and cleaned and inspected the needle wheel all seems to be ok.

Thanks,
John

Im not saying it will work, but venturis can suck too much air which then breaks water flow. That results in a burble which kind of burps out of the system.....then it starts again.

If that helps, you can buy a silencer that pushes into the air line pipe that may permanently stop the problem.

Actually, I just cleaned my Coralife SS 125 earlier tonight (ok, Sunday evening)... And the sucker comes with a silencer. Do you have that installed properly? It makes a HUGE difference.

I also discovered that my skimmer had stopped operating very well as the venturi had gotten clogged with some sort of white mineral deposit. Got that cleaned off and all was well. Guess I need to add that to my monthly maintenance list (or so)...

Thanks Paul & Paul. Paul it does have a silencer and oddly enough mine had a white powder substance. It is working great now. I did notice the performance of collection had been reduced but just thought of it as I had good water chemistry. lol...It is skimming the poop out of the water now. LOL

Thanks Guys,
John

Nope, it wasn't salt creep. It was some sort of mineral deposit, relatively hard, like perhaps calcium....

Yeah same for me Paul, it was hard mineral type deposits. OH NO!!!!! MY FISH ARE ON CRACK! AND SKIMMER IS PRODUCING IT FOR THEM!! LOL

its calcium deposits. For best results.....run the pump in a tub of vinegar for a while with the venturi also under the vinegar.

The calcium builds up due to the air drying the water at that area and leaving calcium. The slat creep is rapidly washed off but the calcium isnt.....so it slowly builds up.

Vinegar? Will it disolve calcium? Will the calcium eventually build back up? How much vinegar 1 part to 1 part? Like a half to half ratio?
