I have the oppourtunity to get a coralife super skimmer neddlewheel 220 for $100 new. I would be putting it on my 75 gal and using it to replace my seaclone 150. I have read mixed reviews and just thought since its so oversized for my watervolume that it may be ok, plus it has to be better than the seaclone right? Anyone have one and have some feedback?
 
I got one on my 125 it's works great forthe $. But I'm saveing for a itech or reeflo skimmer. Anything is better then a seaclone.LOL
 
thats what i was thinking....i was saving for a itech too but I got a gift card from my boss and the website only has the css220
 
I have the SS 65 on my 75g with 20g sump and get 1/2 a cup a day(fairly dark). I have a small bio load so that kinda sounds like alot. All I know is the nitrates are just about undetectable. The 220 has to be better than the 65, so it should be fine.
 
Also have heard people having trouble keeping them dialed in. I've not had that trouble since doing the sump to have a consistant water level. So its been months since making any adjustments.
 
I had the 220 on a 90 gallon and it kept up pretty well. I think for the $ the coralife super skimmers are good deals. I too have heard about difficulty keeping it dialed in but I never had the problem. I added an air pump to mine which seemed to improve performance a little. If your only previous experience is with the seaclone I think you will be impressed with the coralife super skimmer.

I had one and it did well. My itech does better, but the bang for the buck is very well spent.

I actually am looking for a SS 220 (for cheap) for my FOWLR 180. I am leak testing it right now, and as soon as the sump gets here I am good to go for setup.
 
I have one. worked great when I used it once it was dialed in. I used the 65 on my 75. Good for what you pay for them. drew out a bunch of gunk. do a RC search on it. there are some mods you can do that will truly make it shine.
 
Im not gonna bother with mods. If I truly need skimming, I'll buy another Itech. For a FOWLR tank the SS 220 will do just fine :-)
 
wow, so far looks like some good reviews...and like others have said....its got to be better than my seaclone, although for how bad everyone says it is...it has pulled some skimmate out of the tank at times. I usually clean the cup once a week but some times when the moon aligns just right.....bam full cup in one day. I think i am gonna go ahead and buy it.............any other individuals with bad experiences???
 
Rick, you buying from Marine Depot? They have a pretty good deal right now at 154 bucks. Usually I see em for 200. If your Gift cert is from MD, let me know as I may just hop onto that and we get the free shipping :-)
 
Hey andy its sean, and no its not from MD its from 1800petsupplies and they are selling it for 213. I wonder if they will pricematch?
 
$213 ouch! Drs Foster and Smith have them on sale for $160. Looks like the price on these are coming down but 1800petsupplies hasn't followed. You may want to set your sights on a different skimmer and use the gift card for something else.
 
that website also has a asm for a 75gal that I would only have to shell out 18 bucks for and comed with a sedra pump but not sure its big enough and know nothing about asm. I called them and they would not pricematch any saleprice so i would have to find a site that didnt have it listed "for sale" to get it at the list. total bs! Or i could get the asm 100gal but it would cost me 130 out of pocket....not sure its any better than the super skimmer though. any info on asm skimmers?
 
What asm skimmer is it? I'm now running a G-2 on my 90 and love it. The asm use the same needle wheel design as the EuroReef. I have used the asm and coralife on the same tank (at different times) and the asm is definitely the better skimmer. My experience has been that asm rates their skimmers pretty good and coralife over rates their capacity.
 
That's a tough call. I'm more familiar with the old categorizations for asm i.e. 1-2-3... The Sedra pumps are usually good performers. the 2000 should pump 200 gph which is noticeably less than the 500 the super skimmer pump will do. Having said all that I would probably still go with the asm if your longer range plan is to upgrade to a different skimmer. Sounds like you can get it cheaper and recoup a good bit of your money if you decide to sell and upgrade and it will still be an improvement over what you have now. If however you go that route and don't like it let's blame it on Brandon.
 
your a psychologists, you know its always moms fault.....or brandons. haha i think i will go with the asm as i have read lots of better reviews and the gate valve mod and the recirculating mod look like things i could do to improve performance if needed. plus ill only be out 18 bucks with free shipping. also others have said you can simply upgrade the pump and get better performance. I do not plan to upgrade because i am at max weight for the tank location. so even if the 75 is a little small, it will work better than the seaclown.
 
Yes, but I don't even know your mother and Brandon is a safe bet. It will be interesting to see the change in your tank.
