I read in this book below that coraline algae is a calcium sink. I have tons of these all over my rock and glass and I do notice my calcium being unstable (I keep my pH at 8.2 and I only dose - no reactors).
So my question is, I always thought coraline algae was the IT. Products like Purple Up were created precisely for that. So would a reef tank be better without coraline algae? I mean, coraline algae does suck. It makes the whole tank look purple. And my two sea urchins are too slow.
When I am in the mood, I scrub the coraline off the glass. But that's once a year that I feel that way.
What's the truth about this?
