Coraline and live rock fading?

FroMan

Insane in the Brain
I've noticed over the last few months that the coraline and the color my my live rock has been fading. I do regular 10-15 gallon changes w/ instant ocean or reef crystals water is kept at 77-79Ã"šÃ‚°F and SG at 1.025.

What can cause the colors to fade?

I have been battling a hair algae problem and I am on the winning side of that finally. Cout the hair algae consume the nutrients for the coraline and the live rocks?

Check you cal/alk/mg. Phosphates can be a problem too any major changes? lighting upgrade?

I agree with this. Keep Alk at the upper range of 7-11dKH, Magnesium 1250-1350, and Calcium 425-440. If you use IO salt, and don't dose Magnesium, it is very likely that it will test less than the recommended range.

I won't be able to check the parameters tonight, but I will tomorrow. When I checked last week, Phosphates were undetectable. (PO4 measured zero even when I had hair algae all over the place.) Unfortunatly I do not halve a calcium or magnesium test kit.

I have not changed my lights. I'm sill running PCs. The bulbs are about 9 months old.
