Coraline Hates Me

so all the types of coraline in my tank must be some kind of low light Algae. In the main display most of the coraline dies except the stuff on the snails and hermits And on the underside of my return lines. When the algae encrusts to the top of the lines it slowly dies but the stuff underneath thrives. In my sump I have a 10 watt 10k t5 for my chaeto. down there coraline is all over the sides even in my skimmer. So ***. My lights are 2 twist t10 vho with individual reflectors and 2 no t12. CA 430-450 alk 9-10 temp 80 sg 1.026 ph 8.1 8.3 mg 1420. NO3 PO4 both 0

All my corals seem happy. green pocillopora, going crazy lime green and orange caps, doing well, blastos and hammers plump and growing etc etc

Any body have any ideas. I have asked this before but this just drives me CRAZY. Also when u join c-sea do they send u and email or anything....I Joined yesterday...I got the paypal email but that was it.

Thanks
Jake

I have a 90 with just 3 VHO's and it has pink coraline algae everywhere. Doubt if it is the light. has to be something else.

Hey Jake: You may want to check your Calcium. Corraline needs calcium to grow. When my tank was full of growing coral, I had a tough time keeping the Calcium up as the corals were sucking it all up. When my lack of appropriate attention allowed the tank to become a toxic waste dump, I sold/gave away a lot of the corals and the coraline came back.

Just my 2 cents.

I had that problem for a long time and I've got a bright orange coralin that does that. eventually the nice purple that every one thnks of started to come in. I'd be glad to give ya some seed stuff if you want.

What Salt Mix are you using?
Tanks that use Tropic Marin Pro Reef are usually Corraline Heavy.
I always used Pro Reef, and have a abundance of Corraline, as does every other Tank ive seen that Runs it.
Salty Critter uses Tropic Marin, and all Dan's tanks are loaded as well.
I switched to Seachem Reef Salt for a few months and all my Corraline stared to peel off, in chunks. This from a Salt that is supposed to be higher in Mag, Cal, and Alk!
I switched back and after just 3 weekly water changes, all the Corraline is coming back.
HTH!

be careful not to overdose the iodine!

I 2nd that.

If Ca and Alk are ok, I would guess that Mg is lacking.

Thanks for all your posts. I use instant ocean and do a 10% WC a week. Calcium rolls around 420-450 Alk around 9-10. I dose Seachem reef builder in my make up water and reef complete daily. I also dose reef magnesium twice a week. I test 2- 3 times a week for CA Alk PH NO3 PO4. My organics are always at 0. I am A freak about Testing.

I see you dose for Mag but do you test for it? Its surprising how much of the stuff it takes to make a difference in the number you get on the test.

well I know that coraline does not like strong direct lighting such as MH especially. My fuge I run a basic 75 watt grow light from home depot and have a ton of coraline all over .In my main tank it seems like all the shady areas have coraline on it.Kinda like you have coraline under your cords instead all around .I cant remember where I read it but I know it makes sense by the way its positioned in my tank.Bright areas in my tank have less and less lit areas have more
