Coraline turning white?

I had an algea problem so cut my fowlr lights back from 12 hrs to 7-8 hours. Also I changed out the crappy bulbs to ati bulbs. (4 bulb t5) well I recently noticed my coraline on the glass and all over my rocks, pump, everything is turning white. Just curious if this is bad or jut because the lack of light. I will be picking up my first corals at the FFM so my light cycle will go back up to 12. Just curious if this coraline color change is a problem. Thanks everyone

The change in bulbs bumped up your par significantly. I'm thinking you bleached it all out. Unless there is something wrong with your parameters.

If it bleached, it's no big deal. Coralline is not necessary IMO, but if water chemistry is ok, It will come back. No big deal.

Yeah everything is great. Just wanted to make sure before adding any coral that the coraline changing color wasn't a significant issue

Well if it was the bump in light intensity, be cautious when adding new corals and whatnot. Move the light up or tune it down a little of its dimmable. You will bleach any coral that is not used to that particular spectrum and intensity. Bleaching corals is bad. White corals are not healthy. Better to have them brown out than bleach out.

Well I have no coral in there at all. I was waiting for the FFM to get some, do I just keep an eye on the corals? I have nothing to compare the coral to cuz I've never had any in there

Oh geez, I don't know. Depends what your goin for. I would stick with simple LPS like frogspawn, hammer corals. Maybe some easy favias, though I don't have much experience e with them. Softies are always good to start with and some of the "less designer" zoas and palys. If sps, go with monti's, branching and plating, and birdsnest type sps. Stay away fr acros and "high end" zoas/palys, and any other coral that cost more than 20 to 30 bucks tops. Of course a lot of these people are gonna try and sell anything they can for the most part, so you will need to do some research before hand on your own. I would personally talk to some of the peeps at the ctars booth, my guess is they will have the most straight shooters there.

If you are having an algae problem I would really check your parameters. If there is a nitrate or phosphate issue get it taken care of now before you put corals in. Nothing worse then buying a bunch of $20 - $30 frags and having them RTN.

I'm thinking the algea bloom was from tap water. I got lazy and decided to use tap. I have an rodi unit now and no problems since
