CoralLife Salt Mix Ca content

Just mixed some water up with Corallife Science grade salt and I tested it at 405 ppm Ca. Pretty close. Has anyone else tested any other salts for CA content before adding Ca?

I used to use Coralife salt, for some reason, my corals didnt like it that much, so I switch back to IO, now I am using a combo of IO and Kent and the combination tested out 420 cal, 10dkh, 1350 mag so its been working so far.

I'll definately start using that combo.Would you buy IO or kent marine to mix with what I have now to start the process?

Tom,
How do I tell if the Corals don't like the salt mix? Just general unhappiness?

Bye the way I just tested my tank. Ca 425 Alk 146 ppm MG 1380. Last time i tested the MG it was 1300. I hadn't added any Epsom salt or mag flake. What could make the MG level rise?

Bob, coralife salt probably has a high level of mag which will help raise it when you do water change. I think coralife has high alk number and thats what made my corals unhappy since I keep my alk between 7-8.

just tested the freshly mixed Corallife Alk 148 ppm or about 8.3 dkh. So Tom your running the alk a little lower than I've been doing. I've been keeping it at 150-160 ppm or 8-9 dkh. I'll think I'll let it drift a little lower and see how the corals like it. If I remember your still running the Ca at 420ish?

Bob, you are in a good range, I wouldn't change a thing, the reason mine is so low because I have alot more corals than you do so they used it up faster than I can replemish them. So for me 7-8 is a good range. I've found that if you have to make a choice between runng low alk(7-8) vs high alk(10-12), choose lower becasue its easier to add alk than to remove. But this is just my psersonal experience, I am sure other more successfull reefers out there prefered something totally different.
