Coralline Algae inside Skimmer?

NeedBiggerTank

Not Likely 2 Ever Grow Up
So I have Coralline Algae growing on the inside of my skimmer. Is this normal/typical? The skimmer is clear acylic.

Yep. It's a HOB Aqua Medic Turboflotor Blue 1000. Impossible to shield it from ambient lighting, daylight and tank light.

Should I take it apart and try to get it all out of there? I'm not even sure the top comes off to access the two chambers.

Unless you think it affects the performance of the skimmer Id leave it. Now when you do take it out to do monthly maintance I might give it a scrub down but I wouldnt pull it out just to do that.

It will not affect anything unless if a chunk of the coraline gets into the pump. If you want to clean it, take the skimmer off the tank and pour a 30-50% ratio of Muriatic Acid/water. Do this outside, the fumes can be toxic. Rinse well 4 or 5 times & it will be good as new.

Vinegar works well for this task and has No Toxic fumes that you need to go outside JMO
The meuritic Acid may be hazardous to your lawn also if you decide to use this method.
Hello Sean, Hope your doing well in the New Location It's too far for me but if i get out that way I'll look you up.

I'll add vinegar to my grocery list - I keep forgetting to get some.

The coralline doesn't seem to be affecting the skimmers performance at all. I'll make sure I scrub the pump really good too - there is coralline all over (outside) the "cage" that protects the intake nossle.
