Coralline algae?

I've never had coralline algae before so I don't really know if this is that. I do know that it was on a shell that I got when I got a crab. But I don't know if it spread. The crab with the algae on its shell has been in the tank for a good 4 months so I don't know if that's enough time for it to spread.

Pretty sure thats coralline. Congrats! I just got some LEDS over my tank (replacing NO florescents) and am hoping I will have some show up eventually.

You should be getting growth regardless of the type of lights you use.

Calcium! I took time line photos of coralline grown and when I started supplementing extra calcium in the water the coralline exploded. Red pink and a little blue and green

Yup. I second the adding of calcium. Added calcium to my tank and now it encrusts everything. Good news is the urchins have food galore, but oh god the scraping...

Oh thanks guys for clearing that up. I've always wanted coralline but everyone says after having it your not gonna want it once you have it

I always wanted as much coralline as I could get as long as your tank is glass. When it starts to leaf and pillar( if you have the type that grows that way) it adds interest to the tank.

I was actually surprised at how easy it comes off the glass. (using a razor)

I had crazy amounts of corraline in my first tank under T5's. I haven't been able to grow much with my LED's though...
