Coralline algae

Hi all, just checking that this stuff is coralline, and that if it's growing that's a good sign for my tank? Also how the hell do I get it off the glass, don't mind it on the side, that's against a wall. But on the front and opposite side grr.

I use a long handled algae scraper with a blade (Kent Marine Pro) to remove coralline. Works great!

Look up a flipper best thing for that in my opinion if not with a razer blade

yep.. need a scraper of sorts for coralline.. metal for glass tanks, plastic for acrylic tanks.

I employ an urchin (pincushion) in my tank to keep the coralline away.. He keeps the tank spotless but can be annoying in that they will pick up small (not tied down) things to carry around on their bodies... But other kinds (black long spined,etc..) aren't as annoying in that aspect..
I think its cool though and funny to see what he is carrying around each day.. Sometimes it grabs my floating thermometer and carries that around..

yeah a small one should be fine.. it eats algae,coralline,etc...
Give one a try and see how it goes.. Just make sure your parameters are good/stable first.. (low nitrates,etc...)

I had an urchin in my dt. IME it did not touch the coralline. I had to put it in my observation tank as it bulldozed and disrupted everything in my tank. The pin cushion urchin I have is called a Halloween Urchin and is about 2-1/2" in diameter.

The mag scraper works ok, personally I like razor blades on glass tanks, but be careful around the silicone seams.

I've been told that scraping it off of the glass will cause it to spread on other areas such as the rocks. That's good if you like the appearance of it.
