corals and anemones???

I started a 65g. reef tank 6 weeks ago. I have a variety of soft corals, a yellow tang, 6 line wrasse, 2 clowns, and a bubble tip anemone. Everything seems to be doing fine and thriving and my levels are all checking out good.

theres a sump, skimmer, and those really strong expensive lights.

The guy where i bought the anemone and the corals said the anemone should do fine with the corals as long as i keep them a little bit apart. since then i have been reading contradictory opinions about having anemones and corals in the same tank.

i'm a bit confused as to the anemone/coral thing.

any advice, opinions, experience, or whatever else is offered would be appreciated.

It can certainly be done, but there are risks involved as you have read. Just be aware that there is always potential that the anemone may move and sting other animals in the process.

is there any type of preventative care that could be done to help everyone live happy together?

are there corals that are more likely to do alright with the anemone and should be the ones place closer to it and ones that are not and should be placed farther away?

I would just leave it alone, the corals and anemones have a feel for the tank and will most likely adjust or something will get stung. Its the way of life... survival of the strongest.

As long as the anemone isn't moving around very much, you should be fine. One word of warning, though. Your tank may not be quite stable enough for an anemone yet, so keep an eye on it. An unhappy anemone likes to move, and woe to the coral that happens to be where it lands.
I do believe some corals are more resistant to anemone stings, but I couldn't tell you exactly which ones. My cabbage leather had my anemone practically sitting on it at one point and didn't seem to mind, so there's one.

Dont know if this information will help you out, as I too am relatively new to the hobby. I have a large bubbletip that finally found its home (after moving from one piece of live rock to another), and its end tips are constantly dancing with my Xenia in the current...and so far (3 weeks), they seem to be perfectly fine with each other.

Get the 'nem closest to the outtake, downwind of the corals. Especially don't let them next to bubble or galaxia, because those corals have bad sweepers after dark. If you're ok so far, you're ok, and nothing will likely happen, but as things grow, be alert.

Yeah, my LFS tried to sell me an anemone at 6 weeks, saying it was a pretty easy animal to keep. I think the real reason is they try to get rid of their anemones really quickly before they die, since they're such finicky creatures to begin with. I gave it a shot at 6 months, and I now think that may have been a bit soon. He's definitely not quite as healthy as I would like.
