Corals are turning green

Hi Aquaforest,

I've been slowly transitioning to the Aquaforest Probiotic system since mid-March starting with AF Probiotic salt, NP Pro, ProBioS, and Siporax. I started Coral E & V mid-April as well as AcroPower in place of Coral A, Zeovit Coral Snow in place of Coral B, and Reef Chili in place of Coral Power food. I started Components 1+2+3+ May 1st.

So since I started using the Components I notice a huge color gain in my previously pale corals, however I'm noticing A LOT of green in corals that aren't "supposed to be" green. It seems like maybe there is a lot of iron being dosed or something.

Any ideas where this is coming from? Anyone else getting this effect?

Mindy, I would stay the course, I have had some corals morph a bit on me, could be a transitional phase. Keep the thread updated. Other than Iron, not sure??? I remember reading years ago about corals sharing certain pigments symbiotically, but that was years ago, and I would never be able to find that thread again, lol...

That would be an interesting thread. I'll see what I might be able to dig up. I'm hoping it's a transitional phase because of all the colors, green is the one I dig least. Of course! Haha! Maybe blues and reds will be next and they will cover up all the green!

Just wanted to chime in that I seem to be having difficulty maintaining green as well - my other colours are fine.

UPDATE

It seems now in the last couple weeks that the green I was seeing in corals that shouldn't be green has kind of backed off a bit, and it isn't so overpowering now. The corals that are supposed to be green are still very bright green. I did stop dosing AcroPower (in place of AF Coral Amino Mix) a couple weeks ago as I've been indirectly trying to reduce the small patch of hair algae that is in the tank. Maybe it's the AP that's been influencing the green? I'm not sure yet.

Update? I'm having the same problem as some other have posted. Losing greens. Turning more of a grayish green. Not florescent as before starting AF.

In my tank Aquaforest is strong in the greens. I've started unloading some green Acros. :lol:

Check your potassium levels if too low dose K by its self, up to 400 level (slowly)I've noticed first to show signs are plating Monti's. learned it from my KZ experience..

Thanks Circle10. I sent some water in to be tested. As soon as I get back my results I will know where my K level is at.
