hello,i,m cmof29's dad,he usually post the threads on here, but i have a question of my own.now i would like to tell you all about are sw water adventure but that might take some time.they call me saltydog51,my son(christian)cmof are in this together for over a1.5 yrs. now and shared alot of heart breaks, set backs, failers, ust like alot of other people have.but here's my problem, first i will tell you this my 75gal tank is heavliy stocked not as too many fish but the size of them.i know all about the size of fish and their tank requriments.i'm not new to this aquarium web sights or forums.i've learned alot from them.so here's whats going on,i,ve been battling high nitrates for year now,and beleave me i done everything, massive water changes, cutting back on the feedings, cleaning the sand bed,the live rock and on and on.all these have helped but the nitrate level goes back up.it was at 40-60ppm sometimes maybe even higher.i think i'll give the list of current fish and corals the tank was a fowlr but slowly changing over to areef tank,ok here's the list 1-foxface rabbitfish,1-blue hippo-tang,1-sal-fin tang,1-majestic angle fish,1-scooter blenny,1-pj cardinal fish,1-red grouper fish,1-clown fish,1-sleeper goby,1-coral beauty, and assorted corals, brains, devils hand coral leather coral,i do believe that my son posted pics of are current tank.now i also have clean up crew assorted snails, hermit crabs, and get this a12 inch bristle worm,my son pointed it out to me to my surprise.also i know the the fish are to big for this size tank.i had a cleaner shrimp for a year grouper ate him.the grouper is quit large, anything that is goes into the tank that is small gets eaten.well anyways i also purchased a denitratot from aquripure which lowered the nitrates down to 20-30ppm,and cut back on the feedings to once aday and this is where my problem lies my tangs and majestic angle fish ate two of my plate corals and are working on my lobo coral.now i was feeding the fish twice a day 12 hr.intervals but cut it back to once a day to try help with the nitrates, all other levels are fine.still at 20-30ppm.so i feed the fish twice a day but alittle each time on hoping it will curve there appetite but still grazing on the lobo.i know tangs like to graze on things is it normal for them to eat plate corals to? well thats pretty much the jist of things so maybe i'll have to live with the nitrates levels for now.thank you for your time.p.s.i also have two clams

hi there IMO you need to cut down on the bio-load of that tank, way to much going on in there..What type of skimmer do you have and how well is it working??

Also get rid of fish that are eating your coral the two angels and grouper are not reef safe fishes..If they are killing your corals or eating other tank mates that is multiply the nitrates of your tank from detris and decaying corals and what ever else is being eaten..

sounds like a gfo/carbon reactor is in the need for you also..

good luck

Hi,
I didn't see a question in your post. There are many large incompatible animals in there;I personally, don't think I could make a 75g with that much in it function very well.. Aggression ,coral eating, invert eating , high nutrients and stress are inevitable outcomes, imo

In addition to todds suggestion, my view of sailfins is that unless you can keep them grazing on something more interesting 100% of the time all your LPS are going to be on the menu.

sounds like you have to much bioload .your skimmer is making a lot of skimate per day which shows it .the fish are also coral grazers like has been said and you have way to many fish in the tank .

yes,you are all right and i thank-u all but for now i will have to deal with till i can make a upgrade on a 180gal tank.
