i have a 3 inch vietnam corcea clam on my sb doing well- im planning on getting another very colorful corcea blue and gold clam 4.5 inches and also putting it on the SB-
questions are...
1- can the corcea clams be placed next to each other or a couple of inches apart ? and will they thrive under 2x250 MH lightning with 4x65 actinics- i run the MH lightning for 6 hours a day and the actinic for 13 hours a day.
they are about 3 feet from the MH lamps but i have a very good icecap MH fixture with 2 250w phonenix 14k 2 mh lamps that really get all the way down to the sb.or perhaps putting it in the middle to upper part of the tank where it will attach to a rock is best ?
2- will a plate coral hammer or any lps or aggresive brain coral sting the clam or hurt the clam if placed close to it ? i currently have 6 inch large purple Aussie plate coral about 4 inches from my current corcea clam they both lay on the SB but being that plate corals can move and with other corals im getting mostly lps- can i place them in close proximity to the clams without fearing them eating the clam or attacking the clam ?
3- are corcea clams easy to care for if u have nice flow and MH lighting and are they peaceful ?
4-besides trace elements and good nutrients hoow can i do my best to help a corcea clam thrive ?

thanks everyone for all the help!

1 - Yes
2 - They can
3 - Yes
4 - Once 3 inches they should do just fine on their own. I would move them closer to the light. They love the light!

shouldnt be a problem placing them next to each other as long as the derasa doesnt extend over the crocea and block its light.

Croceas are rock dwelling and are best suited to well rocks although sand is fine as long as its not too fine and doesnt get knocked up where they can intake it. They have very small gills that like to clog (think cement dust and your lungs) not fun.

Derasas are a bottom dweller, so he'll be fine on the sand, they are hardy and require less light than the crocea will.

What clams would.do ok on a barebottom? Or is this not advised with any clams? I know I've seen this before, but I myself have not kept clams but will be soon... Ty

got 2 large 4 inch derasa clams today very nice specimens- i put 1 on the SB- and 1 for now is on the medium -upper third of the tank thriving but the MH lights haven't gone on yet- any probelms with that ? i can move the derasa clam to the SB but it fits nice on the crevice in between rocks and it looks good will the light hurt it ? it will be about 20" from a 250w MH lamp directly 20" below- i dont want to shock it and i know clams love light but will this be too much light i hope im OK i just finished putting in so many items im dead tired- my back is broken :(
