I have Coralline Algae growing everywhere but my rocks....it is on my powerheads, glass everywhere but the rocks...Is it because I have 100 blue leg hermits? could they be eating it? I only have a little coralline algae on the rocks.

Also I am starting to get a bubble algae everywhere. could the hermit crabs be popping the bubble algae and its gowing all over my rocks? How do I get rid of the Bubble algae? I can't have emerald green hermits cause they eat my acans. HELP!

How long has the tank been setup? It took my rocks a good 3-6 months to get some good purpling.

I use emerald crabs (not hermits) to get rid of bubble. They haven't messed with my acans.

A picture would be helpful along with a little history.
How long has your tank been set up? What are your parameters?
How big is your tank? What kind of lighting do you have and how old are the bulbs?
I have never had a problem with hermits eating coraline but urchins sure will.

My Parameters are Ca 500 Alk 10 Mag 1300 Nitrates 0 Phosphates 0

I have had the tank running now for 1 year and 8 months. I currently have a 90 gallon 36x24x24 and I downgraded from a 150 gallon I had running for 3 years.

I just replaced my lights like 3 months ago. I ATI Powermodule lighting.

what does it mean did I seed it with any live rock?

Well if it were a new tank I would have figured you started with dry rock not live rock. But after that much time I don't have a clue why you don't have any coraline. Your parameters look good.

Yes I did start with Dry rock...because when I started my new tank I boiled a lot of the rock and didn't boil all the base rock. I boiled it because I had a mantis shrimp or pistol shrimp that was eating all my shrimps.

um, if its all over the glass start scraping it!!!! it will settle on the rocks (unless u have ALOT of flow) and you will soon have coraline covered rocks!

I do have some coralline algae on my rocks but it's not completely covered like all my friends tanks. Mine is very patchy.

OK I will try to scrap it....For flow I have 4 koralia powerheads on timers were only 2 are on at a time.

scraping it off the glass should deff help spread it faster, that and ur glass will be clean and clear :)

if your rocks are remaining clean in spite of coralline growing everywhere else I'd be willing to bet theres a small hitch-hiker urchin in there somewhere... my urchin hunts down and quickly devours any coralline that grows anywhere he can get to...

I have a pincushion in my tank and he doesn't seem to bother much of it. My tank's about 3 months old and I have some coverage on my rocks, but it's not fully grown. Some on my equipment as well.

Back in the day I used a Marc Weiss product (I know they aren't well respected here) called Coral Vital and I swear it accelerated coralline growth.

I'd suggest against buying any products. Just point a powerhead directly at a rock under a generous amount of light. If that doesn't help, you have a hitchhiker.

wouldn't I have seen it if it was a hitchhiker sea urchin? Could it be a different kind of hitchhiker?
