would be nice to see size yes, also similiar can be said to running cost.
This way, you can perhaps see size vs. cost vs. running cost.
Thats has been done before to some degree, but usually we dont want to know, think and tell the other halfs about this !!

It's also important to consider factors such as electrical work, plumbing, backup generator, spare equipment, construction costs (of the area), moving costs, crane (in my case), etc...

I don't want to do the math really. I'd rather just enjoy the ride :)

Jan

Well I have way less in my 400g system, including building the "room" for it and remodeling the the basement, than your smallest number. I'm gonna say right at 3500.00

Rob, I marked the incorrect range. I forgot to include our NG whole house generator in money spent. Living in a hurricaine prone area, a generator is not uncommon but with the reef tank, it was a must have.

I'm in the process of building up a (relatively small, by the standards here) 240G tank. The tank and sump came to ~$2000 including delivery. The wood for the stand was ~$900 (the cabinet doors were expensive). The pump (a reeflo dart gold), plumbing, and RO/DI system came to $1500. Fresh & salt-water storage tanks were another $550 inc delivery. The dosimeter pumps for automated water change and top-off were another $350, the lighting I'm doing myself with LED, and that'll come to ~$1000. I have an old skimmer, but I'll probably go for a bubble-king 200, so that's another $1500. That's about $8k before stocking... I'm doing a fair amount of the "building" (including an exceptionally cool reef controller not accounted for in the above) myself as well. This is not an inexpensive hobby...

Simon.

The tank is FO and set up with minimal power consumption in mind. I probably forgot a few things but Im still under 13000.00 at this point. When the economy went bad a few yrs ago I made some changes so that I could still enjoy my big tank and have enough money for college (children) and retirement in about 10/15 yrs.
