Costly Mistake

SO..

The other day a line on my intake blew off shortly after getting new lines cause they were old and I thought, hey! Maintance, great idea!!

I use a hob overflow and those nice flex lines you just jam in and forget. So I go to work the next day and realise, hey, I forgot my gym stuff, I should go back for that stuff. So I hop in the car on my lunch to drive home and I get a phone call right when I get in the car, its my roommate asking how to turn off everything in my tank cause there is water everywhere.. uhoh I think.. what happened...

Long story shortened.. One of the spanky new eshopps lines snapped open.. dont know how.. but it did.. showered 3/4 of my power bars cause of the way it broke and sprayed off to one side that shouldnt get wet.. so I go back to the store, they replace them without asking.. and offer me half off a fish.

Those following another thread know I have a stone fish.. but this is a good deal, so I look around. Then I see it, one of my favourite wrasses.. or member of family. A H.Tuskfish. About 1" longer than my stone fish, fat bodied, good swiming habits in the tank, goes straight for food when fed.. im in heaven! I mean its bigger than my stonefish!

Soo.. blah blah blah.. aclimate. blah blah feed.. blah happy.. Next day.

Gone.

Cant find, there is a net topper on my tank so jumping is not a option. Lots of caves but almost everything is visable.. and my stone fish still hasnt moved from his fav spot.

So unless this 6-7" Tusk can hide in 3" caves or somewhere I cant see.. which is maybe less than %3 of my tank.. my stonefish actually ate a fish larger than the length of his body. Im dumbfounded and hoping this fish is actually a better hiding fish than my stone fish and found that one spot I cant see him.. cause really I dont see how it could have happened.. but im at 48 hours of no Tusk.

Must say I wanted to share this story cause general rule of thumbs dont always work. The rule of thumb is a stone fish can eat somthing close to the size of its own body. This guy was I swear approx 1" larger. Was likely a very good $50 meal.

:headwallblue:

Oops...stonefish will be stonefish. Sorry 'bout that.

IME, with scorps, I usually suggest going 1.5x the size of the scorp.

Gee a $50 tusk? Next time, spend the bucks and get him a more expensive Australian Tusk. He'll appreciate it! BTW, I've amazed at what some scorps can gulp on a few occasions too.

To my understanding Tusk arnt sand dwelling. But trust me.. Im just hoping next week somtime I come down there and he is just sitting by the glass being a needy hungry fish ready to eat.. vs the latter, being eaten.

$50 for half off... the only upside, I dont think ill have to feed him for awhile

Ya.. I have my fingers crossed that he just is hiding some place I cant see in some borrow that my stone fish had made previously.. mostly cause of this.. my new fish came in a week ago and is eating now...

Here he was at the store..

Here he is in my tank with the lights out so he can settle in undisturbed.. though I did push him away from the stone fish burrow and fed the stone fish two silversides before introducing him..

Sorry for grainy photos.. best my phone will do.

Also I wanted to share the anglers they had just got in... the biggest giant anglers ive ever seen in a store.

So here is the hope that Tusk is hiding, and that my lion doesnt fall victim to the hunger pains of my stonefish.

"Grainy photos" are better than no photos? All I'm getting are blue squares with ? marks.

and that my lion doesnt fall victim to the hunger pains of my stonefish

 I don't get it. Are you saying you hope the lion doesn't get eaten by the stonefish? Cause it most likely will if it's an "eatable" size. Or are you saying you hope the lionfish doesn't eat a tank buddy? Cause, again, it most likely will if it thinks it can cram it.

How big is the stonefish, and how big is the pretty Radiata? I don't know if you can tell with stonefish, but does he look any chubbier than usual?

My lfs has an angler that looks like that. It's only palm size though.

Those anglers are about 8-9" long.. its crazy.

The lion is 6" long but very chubby and opens up to be huge.. I asked for a large one.. it was what they were shipped.
