i had a cleaner shrimp and it dissapeared. i have a sally lightfoot crab, but i dont think he could or would catch it.

would a mantis eat my sally lightfoot if i had one?

there is a hole going under a piece of live rock that something burrowed in and im not sure whats in there.

would the best way to find out to just build a bottle trap and see what i catch?

Read "The adventures of Tim" thread. It seems to that almost anything is fair game to a mantis and they are more than capable of eating shrimp! :-)

I am not being sarcastic here,gfk,really...

Mantis shrimp are one of the most effective predators in the world, as far as % of attack success/kills go.

Mantis shrimp are notorious for eating cleaner shrimp, crabs of all sorts,clams,barnacles,oysters,scallops...fish.

A mantis catching your cleaner shrimp is akin to you taking a TV dinner out of the freezer to eat...it's easy.
Mine eat crabs all of the time (I have to buy the crabs, but still), a sally lightfoot is just a snack, sorry.

On the bright side, if it is a mantis (once you trap it), they make really interesting pets if put in their own little tank. If you don't wish to keep it, someone close will usually trade you for something you might want, or even buy it off of you.

I am in San Francisco, which isn't all that close to Chico, but chances are that someone else close would like it.

ya i understand theyre crazy killers ive read a lot of the threads in here. however, im wondering where my cleaner shrimp went and why i still have my sally lightfoot and tons of snails and hermits. i guess i want to find out whats living in this hole under my live rock. im guessing its a pistol shrimp or a mantis. a pistol would be more ideal so i could get something to pair up with it

i think i might have found my cleaner shrimp in mulch inside my bak pak2 skimmer. he always hung out by the pump, im wondering if he got sucked into it. gonna keep my eye out for some sexy shrimp and see how long those last
