I (we) could possibly be moving to the Wilmington area. Just wondering how it is there. We will be visiting next weekend to take a look.

How is the club here? LFS?

What areas should I look into or avoid (for living purposes)? New Castle seems inexpensive, relatively... does it suck? And whats with the lack of garages!!! Looking at homes in the area, seems like lots of places dont have garages!?!

Thanks

Brian

the city of Wilmington has some nice areas but go two blocks this way or 3 blocks that way and your in the wrong neighbour hood quick. New Castle has its good parts and bad parts. most of Bear, Newark, Pike Creek, North Wilmington, Christiana are pretty nice. our Realtor is really good and is in to fish, if you are interested i can send you his name and number.

the club is nice, bunch of good people.

LFS's some good some not so good

If your looking for Garages look in the bear/middle town area... Or you can go even further south Smyrna (voted one of the best small towns to live in by good morning america).

Like mbbuna said alot of Wilmington and Newcastle can be bad there are a few select areas that are nice. You can definently get more house for your $ the further south you go. IE Smyrna, Clayton, Dover

Thanks for the info...

I have seen those places further south, but I wonder about the commute. I have done long commutes before and not really interested in that again. Maybe it just looks farther than it really is.

mbbuna-- If you could give me the realtor contact info that would be great. I havent talked to anyone yet.

the commute isn't to bad from the south. rush hour from south to north can be a PITA from RT.1 through I.95 but its not like many other parts of the country. a lot of the people that live in Delaware have lived here there whole lives and can remember when it didn't take so long to get from here to there. so to a lot of locals the traffic sucks:) but if your comming from a big city your going to think this is a breeze.

ill send you a PM with the info

Hi blakdak

Welcome to the area!

There is a lot going on in SW in this area. DE, PA, and NJ all have great clubs and members. Aside from CA I think this is one of the most active fish areas in the country. We have a great little club in DE going that seems to be growing at each meeting. DE has a few small mom/pop LFS stores, but within a couple of hour drive are some very amazing stores like that fish place (Lancaster) and exotic aquatics (Baltimore).

Quick background on me- I grew up in West Chester PA and have lived in DE for about 10yrs. I was a licensed realtor for about 4yrs, but have since returned to Chemical engineering full timec personally I have always found Delaware to be a little odd. I look forward to moving back to PA at some point, but in the mean time, there are plenty of jobs in the area and the cost of living is lower than the surrounding areas. DE is close to just about everywhere- Pocono mountains are about 2hrs away, DE beaches are nice and about 2hrs away, philly and b-more about 1hr, and DC and NY close by as well.

It looks like you will be coming from IL. Get ready for a bit of sticker shock(depending on where you are coming from) as prices have sky rocketed in recent years. My past clients generally liked the Newark and Hockessin areas, but Bear is pretty nice too. Middletown is pretty nice, but is a bit further drive, and in my opinion has not been properly planned given the huge surge in population they have seen-traffic in Middletown seems crazy to me, but it is still commutable to the Wilmington area. Plan on 30min-1hr depending on traffic. DE is a bit notorious for having a bad public school system compared to surrounding states. Many people send their kids to private school-mostly catholic schools. In that respect you pay or you pay-send them to private schools in DE or public in PA, but pay the same in the end with taxesc

Let me know if you have any Qs
Cheers
Eric

stay away from the city of Wilmington and also do your self a favor and stay away from new castle there are much better place's then them two in Delaware for sure just my two cents !
