could dried shrimp cause illness?

I recently stumbled upon dried krill at a local Korean supermarket. Since it was 25% per lb. of the price of comparable freeze dried krill at most aquariums I tried it thinking if humans could eat it why not my fish. There was no list of ingredients on the bag.other than the dried shrimp.. after about 4 weeks of feeding (not exclusively) my tank, which for the past 3 years has been just about perfect (no disease outbreak, healthy and thriving fish, no new fish etc.) went haywire.. my clown triggger has serious eye problemand clouded fins, my Koran angel had eye problem and itching, my wrasse developed scale eruptions by pectoral fin, others were fine (tomato clown, niger trigger, yellow tang, powder blue, B/W damsel, spotted grouper) but lots of cloudy eyes and some distress. Salinity was high 1.025 (i have it serviced and problems started about a week after last service) and tank was treated with copper about a week ago as well.. My first question is.. COULD THE SHRIMP HAVE CAUSED FISH DISTRESS BECAUSE OF AN ADDITIVE I DON'T KNOW ABOUT? Two: can high salinity 'burn' fish and reduce their immunity to parasites or fungus? any other ideas? (I just ordered replacement UV bulb- last change Sept 2008)Thanks for help..

ok 2 things.....

1.025 is not high. I keep my reef at 1.026-1.027

Also why was copper used a week ago? You do know that copper is poisonous to fish right? Normally you treat with copper then do large water changes to get as much as you can out of the water.

There could have been a problem with the shrimp in regards to some additive or preservative that was undisclosed. Do you know why your service company coppered the tank? I expect that will have more to do with the problem than the shrimp.

Yes, preservatives in dried seafood can be a problem. It may not be listed. I use only fresh seafood from good sources.

The process of freeze drying retains much more nutrients than air drying.

An overdose of copper will cause sores on fish and those sores could lead to other bacterial infections like clowded eyes.
It is hard to tell what additive was added to shrimp from Asia. They have much different food safety laws (if any) that we do.
