I have a 24 Gallon Nano and just picked up a Scarlet/Fire/Blood Shrimp.

Awesome shrimp, shy though. I am thinking that i would like to get a more friendly Shrimp= a cleaner shrimp probably.

Could i have both in the same tank? I am planning on having 5 fish in the tank so there would be something for them to do/take care of.

Do you think they would work together? would they fight it out? would these two be too much for the 24Gal Nano.

Fire shrimp to my knowledge are a type of fire shrimp. You can definitely have both, and even more like sexy shrimp if you wanted. The only things you don't want to mix are mantis shrimp since they tend to eat/kill what is around them and I'd also be weary of coral bandeds. I've heard they don't mix too well with ohters besides cleaner shrimp.

For a nano tank, despite being a bit cryptic I recommend Leander plumosus for a unique looking shrimp. I've had mine for over a year now and he's just too awesome. Here's what they look like

refrain from getting coral banded shrimp. they are terrible:mad2: other than that, you can have a blood shrimp and a cleaner in the same tank no problem

i had a pair of CBS and a pair of skunk cleaners in my 20 gallon long for a week before i upgraded and they did fine togethor.

I have several different species in my 14 nano, Stenopus pyrsonotus, golden coral banded shrimp pr, Hawiaan harlequin pr, atlantic scarlet lady pr, bumble bee pr, several pepermint shrimp, sexy shrimp, and several types of anemone shrimp. Some are very cryptic, for instance I almost never see the bumble bee's unless the moonlights are on and it is very late (or early depending on how you look at it), others are out and active all of the time, but they all get along and I have no trouble. There are no fish in the tank, just lots of rock, algae, soft corals, anemones and some hard tubed feather duster species.

Why do you say that? Only reason I ask is because I dont know and would like to get one and maybe a cleaner shrimp or 2.

I concur wiht the Coral Banded reference- He killed 5 hermit crabs and has been attacking my now deceased mollymiller blenny.

I have a Sargassum Shrimp (Leander tenuicornis) and a Pair of Peppermints in my 10 Gallon Planted Zoa/LPS tank. No problems.

Awesome looking shrimp, where did you get him from?

I too had a CBS in with my cleaner shrimp. It was mean as hell. Would constantly chase my cleaner shrimp away. Final straw was when I added a coral beauty in and he grabbed it by the nose scratching the fish badly. Mean little buggers. He went back for credit.

Alrighty. On that note, a cleaner shrimp it is haha

Do I need to have good established sand for a cleaner shrimp? I just moved all my rock into a new tank but have all new sand that i seeded.

Only have 3 fish right now too.

I have a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp and a blood red fire shrimp in my tank. Also I used to have 2 peppermint shrimp in my tank but they were killed by my debelius reef lobster while they were molting, he also killed my cleaner shrimp and my fire shrimp.

Yeah, I really want to replace my beloved cleaner shrimp and I also have always wanted to try out a goby/shrimp pair, but I've heard that pistol shrimp are "iffy", particularly with other shrimp.
It seems like cleaner shrimp are an awful lot faster though?

type in pistol shrimp at youtube. You will see how well pistol shrimp and cleaner shrimp get along. LOL

I'm sure it happens in the wild, but there are a lot of variables there. Is the general consensus that it will happen in an aquarium?

I got mine from a local fish store. They have some very kind wholesalers who do get oddities in once in a while. I think you'd be able to track it down if you look hard enough once in a while I've seen them pop up on Diver's Den and a few other places. They aren't common but they are way cool.

I also like the look of the above mentioned sargassum shrimp. I've seen some locally in florida's waters that are similar. Lots of little seaweed shaped/colored ones but I like the one I have better. He has such a curious personality!

I'm all for mixing shrimps as long as there is enough room for them all to be comfortable. And dont forget they are all individuals so one may be snippy and territorial where another may not be!
