Could low light be killing my palys?

I have a colony of pink palys that I have had for about 9 months...........growing/looking great, etc. I moved about a 2 months ago and everything is now in a smaller tank with less light.

Before they were fairly centered under a 400w radium on the sand bed in a 20" tall tank.

Now they are in a shallow neo nano light by a 150w phoenix and some weak PCs. They are off to the side of the tank. One side is pretty well lite and the other is somewhat shaded due to the slope of the rock they are on. (can post pics later).

Anyway, I noticed over the past couple weeks that the shaded side hasn't been opening up as much and today I realized that some of the shaded polyps have died! I tried to remove the dead polyps and blew away as much necropsis, dead tissue, etc. as I could.

I have moved the colony to a better lite spot. what do you guys think I suould do?

BTW I have 4 zoas colonies doing fine and some growing RPEs

In the neo nano there really is no up so I have moved them a little closer to the center of the halide

Of the polyps remaining, about 2/3 of look fine and about 1/3 of the polyps are alive, but not happy.

Do you think they will heal over time with better light or should I do a major frag and disgard the questionable 1/3?

thanks!

Since day one. I have had the tang for about two and a half years and it has never touched a coral (that I know of anyway) He/she was gitty thinking I was about to feed and wouldn't get out of my camera shots :)

BTW when I blew away the necropsis, die off, etc nearly every fish in the tank felt compelled to sample it. None showed any ill effects. I always thought that if palys were so toxic they would at least damage if not kill a fish. what gives?

Anyway, I will take some pictures if things continue toward the worst. For now I continue to acclimate it to higher light

Nice looking cat'z eyes.

Not all palys are toxic as the REAL palys.

Thank, you they are actually quite nice (flouresence pretty well). I was sad to to see them decline in health.

BTW are you going to the BAR swap this weekend? I will be bringing some frags of my other zaos. Was actually hoping someone could help me identify them.

By the look of your little colony, I would not frag them off the main colony. By the look of them, I would have to think they have a good chance of coming back to normal in no time. They just look a bit stressed to me.

I didn't dip them, but I probably will today if they don't look any better. I just basted the $%# out of them with my all purpose reef baster

its just weird because I haven't added anything new to the tank for a good three to four months and the last paly added was like 6 months ago.

two struggling polyps I couldn't get to let go yesterday came off today.......sounds like a dip is in order. All i have right now is Kent Marine Tech D

any recommendations?

How long have you had that tang along with those polyps?

so the palys look about the same, but guess who was picking around the bad parts........the Yellow tang. I can't tell if it is eating the polyps in general or if the scum/algae/etc around the bad ones. How common is it for tangs to eat corals?

It happens that's all I'm going to say which is why I became worried for you a little the minute I saw the tang even though it was a Yellow tang more know as being a vegitarian, but with all living things, it can become opportunistic.

Please search the zoa threads that I posted or answered to in regards to this issue, " some people still don't believe but it does happen, not just here on RC, do a google search , you'll see it more than it's talked about.
