Could someone help me out on the name? Thanks.

some sort of a montipora... super sweet whatever it is. It looks too "bumpy" for undata, too thick for the capitata that I have seen. There is another one that it looks a little like (shape wise) but for the life of me I can't recall the name.. sorry :(

You know what it sort of looks like ? Like the rice coral that is going around, with it's polyps pulled in. Even though the rice coral is a capitata IIRC, I ahve seen it grow into many weird shapes in our tank and prop tank. The picture has a similar base color, the polyps are close (depending on the lighting) and the green accents on the tips is common when placed under high lighting.

Thanks a lot Tom. I will take a few more pics tomorrow when the lights come back on. I had it for a little more than a year now starting from a dead skeleton (I almost threw it always since I did not see any tissue on it), and it did not grow much until recently. It has pretty big bumps that encave the purple/blue polyps, and do well under low light at the bottom of tank (anything higher bleach it). My favorite unknown piece.

Yikes.

Still have mine. Though I just started seeing some white on the base this week. No pests though. And the polyps are still there.

I suspect it's reacting to the change in skimmers on the tank.

I did move the monti to a quarantine this morning so that I could keep a closer eye on it.

I'll get a piece to you when you're ready, Jim.

Thanks everyone for the id. My guess is most likely it is blue polyped danae as Jim said. Tom, the polyps are about the average size of monti polyps, and they are out most of the time.

Here is another picture I just took, with 10k reeflux and actinic, very close to real thing, except the polyps are not extended as much as they usually do due to my cleaning of glass before picture taking. Just realized that it is more brown than it used to be, maybe I should move it more into the lights.

Blue polyped danae, I just killed one of those but I bet Norm still has his piece!
Now that I'm thinking about it...

Just about every danae that I've had turned white and retracted it's polyps at some point early on. Then the color comes back and the polyps extend again after a few weeks of looking dead.

Has this happened for others? Do I just have a danae unfriendly tank?

More thoughts...

The rice corals I saw that came in a couple years ago were all white too before the base got color. Stress?
