lookin at my tank over the last few days i noticed a few things lookin different....

i have a 100g mixed reef tank with some softies included like a large colt coral and a decent size yellow devil finger leather coral... could these be bad for sps? i run carbon 24/7

ok so heres what i have noticed with a few of the sps.... growth was going really good before i went on vacation to maui

now i noticed the new growth tips on my red milli look like the tissue has died off the tips and the they are just skeleton showing...

i have a tri color stag that was growing good and encrusting on to the rock work but the tips now were slowly receding very slowly but still

i have a baby blue stag frag that was getting bigger about 4 branches and 2.5" long and encrusted all on the rock.... well i noticed some recession in the encrusted part over the rockwork slowly working its way up the coral

i have an A. valida thats doing good its growth has slowed down though but still looks good

i have a A. tenuis yellow thats growing well and another with blue tips thats new but looks good

my yellow encrusting monti with purple polyps is pretty much a gooner and my nice purple humilis coral is all but half gone and im not sure why he was doing great and coloring up nicely it was aqau cultured

all my other softies LPS and Clams all seem well and doing great

water seems good except i have a hard time keeping my Alk up i dose daily as of now with B-ionic my new tank comes in next week and ill have a reactor in it to take care of the dosing

heres my water

Ph 8.2
Am 0
Na 0
Ni 0
PO4 0
Alk 7.7-8.0
Ca 450
Salinity 1.025
temp 80
25X's turnover

lights 2-250W DE Helios 20K with 180W of 10K PC

help anyone??

my new tank comes in next week and ill have a better sps system and be getting rid of a lot of the softies but what can i do until i have the new tank set up probably about a month until its all plummed and ready to go

thanks!!!

any help anybody?

just seems like some of my acros are ever so slowly receding and all in different ways

any suggestions would be appreciated

i dont know if the flows the issue cuz everything is moving around very nicely in the tank i see all the sps polyps swaying around...

i know people that keep there sps in 20X's flow and they do fine im thinking it gotta be something else ....

i really cant do anything with the flow right now my new tank comes in next week and im not adding anything else to this tank

I think it's Magnesium. I had the same problems with the receeding tips. If you can, do a search for my Mg post here in the SPS forum about a month back.

Check Magnesium. Start 10% water changes every other day. Change carbon. Sounds like you have a water quality issue or a pathogen. If tank deosnt improve in a couple of weeks consider a lugals dip on one of the corals and see if thatstops the recession. Ussually pathogen spreads slowly from colony to colony so I would expet with you its a water quality issue.

I have the same tank with a very big colt that actually has split into 4 big colts and a big devils hand. My acros are all doing fine, I had a little STN at the base of one of them but it did'nt get very far and my acro tips are all growing like crazy. I even cut the colt in the tank and some of my other softies looked like hell for a week after, but the SPS had no reaction. From my experience I would look at other factors. All that said, I too will get rid of most of my softies when I change to my new 125, they take up too much SPS realestate. BTW I use 1 cup of carbon changed out every week and and a 10% WC per week as well.

Is there anyway to get rid of pathogens? I am battling recession in my tank. My mag was 1230, so I don't know if this is the reason.
