Couple Q's

I've had two in the past.
Never would touch any of "the plant like algae" in my tank (in my case, it was brown algae). They seem to prefer microalgae that grows close to the rock...the 'short fuzzy' stuff.

:D

Yeah i have lots of that to. Short fuzzy seems kinda bristley green stuff. Along with leafy red & green type, green vine-leaf type and something that looks like small ferns.

I have an under water garden so it seems. Great Fuge i guess. Some of it was on the LR when i bought it. It has really taken off. I trim it all once a week at time of water change.

I already have coraline growing/ coating the back wall. The rock also has lots of coraline. Problem is the algae seems to grow over it making it less visible and seemingly killing the coraline. I hate it.

:D Nice descriptions!

An AB will clean up some of that stuff, but may eventually starve if not enough is continually replaced...especially in a tank with little rock. Mine use to scrape-rock almost constantly. Eventually all that yummy stuff will be gone and there'll be little left to keep him fat.

If i could take a guess the bristly green stuff is a type of turf algae. Much tougher than your standard "hair algae" I have a huge patch of it on one of my rocks. I tolerate it because its not all that unattractive and it doesn't spread quickly. However, I have never found a critter that crawls or swims that will eat the stuff.

I use NSW in my 20G and love it. I did notice that I have to supplement iodine sometimes, but I am really conservative because the test is so involved, I worry I am not getting good results and don't want to over do it. I actually think this would be the case for me for anything I had a tested irregularly.

The only thing I have to be carefull about is to buy way in advance, once I went to the store a couple of days before water change time and they were out. I have no backup plan - so I always stock 20G in case of a dire emergency.
