Couple questions about zoo dipping

I was just reading the sticky about dipping zoos when you get them and was wondering a couple things.

I have some coming in this week and would like to know if you guys acclimate them to your tank first and then do the dip or dip first and then acclimate? It seems like there'd be know point to acclimate if you're dipping them in fresh water for 5 minutes.

Also, this lugols Iodine they were talking about. Is there something special about this Iodine or will a bottle of Kent Iodine work the same? thanks

I think most brands of iodine would work, although Lugols is most commonly used.

Not 100% sure about the dip/acclimate vs. acclimate dip. I've always dipped and then acclimated. (I usually only put them in the FW w/lugols for a minute or two though, not 5 min.)

I usually acclimate then dip and then place in tank...I have had no issues so far this way I don't think it will matter really. The dip don't last long enough for them to be affected by it. I is the possible pest that will be affected and fall off. I don't think you would want to dip then place them back in the bag they just came from in case there is pest in the bag....That would defeat your purpose for dipping......I also use Kent Iodine for dipping, I think Lugol's is a little more concentrated and a more pure Iodine then Iodine that is mixed in a colloid.
