Couple questions on the Profilux

So my first Profilux experience wasn't great - too hard to control w/o a PC. But now I'm setting up a 20G tank, and looking at sub-$500 controllers again. It looks to me that the best option you have would be similar to this one -

http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=49_234_235&products_id=1260

And it comes with this -

The ProfiLux Beginner pack includes

ProfiLux Plus II
Level port
Temperature Port
pH port
4 socket power bar
GHL pH Probe
Temperature Probe
Water Level float switch
Float switch fastner
RS232 cable
pH calibrations
CD Software and manual

So a couple questions. Is this going to be easier to program than the Light II bar w/o a PC? And the level float - I can't find any info on that. Is it the standard setup - I assign a plug to a pump - when the float lowers, it kicks on the pump, filling the chamber? Is there any redundancy? Reverse float switch? Can I set a max time? I'm not a huge fan of float switches.

Also is the base unit any different than the base units on the more expensive models? Or does more money just get you more goodies?

Thanks much - I think my biggest concern is - will this be more user friendly than that Light II.

Hi

We did offer direct assistance with the setting up of the Light II without pc interfacing it, but we never heard back, there was quite an active thread started offering assistance.

The ProfiLux Plus II uses the same manual programmable interface as the Light II. But with support there would not be a single issue in getting this programmed for you, you could even take it to a friends house, program it there on the pc and then bring it back to your set up, this is really easy to do, or we can program it for you and then you connect to a pc and you can upload the settings, thats another way round. So all the support is in place for you 100%. But why not connect it to your own pc.

Basically the beginner pack is the near entry level, the main controller you get is the same as the advnaced plus pack, after this the controller changes to the EX version, but of course at any time in the future you can upgrade the profilux plus II to an Ex by fitting the EX upgrade kit.

The level control can be standard or quite advanced as you so choose to program it, but basically all you are requesting is available and more so.

The beauty of the ProfiLux is that support is contantly available at all times both on here and personally through us by phone and email and of course the product is available NOW and being updated and advanced weekly!!

Please let me know if we can help futher.

Well I don't want this thread to go down that road - I know you offered assistance but I've owned a B2, AC2, Aquatronica and Lighthouse and didn't need any help. They were VERY intuitive and easy to figure out. Plus after waiting for the temp probe for a month I just decided to ditch it. I didn't get back because I waited so long for that probe - I had already decided to go a different route. I know its a good controller but it just wasn't plug n play as I'd hoped. I don't know that the current owner is having any better luck than I had.

As I mentioned, I am a Mac household with no plans to get a PC. I don't want to "take it to a friend's house" - what about when I need to make changes?

That said, I do know a few people who are satisfied with their units. So I'm still considering it, its probably at the top of my list given what I need and cost.

So basically there are only a few buttons and commands the same as the Light II? It won't be easier to sort thru than the LII?

Can you explain further about the float/ATO? It comes with one float switch, do I just need to buy an add'l float to turn off? And how does that get wired (please be specific, I'm not a DIY guy). Would that be an add'l plug? Can you explain "and more so"? I can assign the pump to max out at 10 seconds, just in case the float sticks? What are the options ("more so")?

Thanks for the help. I really want the unit - I just need some clarification on the ATO abilities, and what more I'll need to do/buy to add some redundancy.

Oh last question - the tank is a standard 20 acrylic. I have a 6025 & a 6045 in there. I also put the Profilux at the top of the list for wave features. I'm thinking of replacing those two with a 6055. What add'l products do I need to get the wave features for the 6055? Just a cord?

I do have the Breeze fan which I like very much - I suppose that could work for cooling.

Thanks,

David

Hi

The best place to get info on ALL the features for ATO are in the manual here is the link

http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquaristik/Download/Manual_ProfiLuxII_V308.pdf

Turn to page 32 and from there down explains everything, the manual also explains how to program the unit manually in step by step instructions. And of course you can get support any time from us. We hope of course you would use this offer when ever needed, everyone from time to time needs support on any product and this is what we are here for.

For Tunze control all you need is the Tunze GHL connection cables.

If you decide to program the controller through a friends pc then everytime you want to change a setting, just simply unplug it (you wont lose any settings) and pop over and change what you need to do, but once you have the system up and running there should not be much you would require to change so I do not see this as a regular thing. Of course as suggested before you could always use a Mac emulator!

We hope you decide to join the couple of thousand extremely satisified GHL owners and we are always here to help

if you need more advise please drop us an email where we can provide more personal support

Best wishes
Michael

Thanks - that manual is good. I have a reefer friend who is pretty happy with the unit. I should run over to his place to check it out.

I'm in advertising. All my friends are Mac users. No emulators here! Although I do think the new OS makes that easier ...

Thanks again - I'll read over the manual.
