couple questions regarding ich treatment / Quick Cure

Hi,
I have a healthy reef talk that I recently added a couple fish to. A few weeks later I noticed some of my other fish showing signs of ich.

I took all the fish out of my display tank and set up a hospital tank for them. I've been doing daily water changes along with Quick Cure. I was going to do this for two weeks.

I am to understand that because of the lifecycle of ich, it will still be living in my tank when the fish are through treatment. How long should I keep them out of my display tank since I am unable to treat the reef tank? If I put them back in my display tank, will they get ich again? Or does the Quick Cure prevent them from getting it for any amount of time?

Any help is appreciated... Thanks!!

IMO as long as you are using Quick Cure in attempt to "rid" them of ich, you're just spinning your wheels because it won't eliminate it regardless of how long you leave your tank fallow. Water changes won't do anything to treat/cure ich either. I'd recommend TTM as treatment. ditch the quick cure and also reading the links posted above.

the water changes I mentioned were to keep my fish alive in the hospital tank. I guess that could have been left out.

Thanks for the input. What do you mean it doesn't matter how long? Are you saying even after 8 weeks it will be alive in my display tank?

I've read both those threads. The TTM is very briefly discussed, im not exactly sure I understand it completely without doing more research. I'll have to dig into it more. 8 weeks is a loooonnnggg time. Perhaps I'll get a strong UV and do some serious water changes and risk it. Just not sure I want this hospital tank set up until December. ugh...

It's not fun, but necessary. I'm in the same boat as you right now. Fish can't go back into my DT untill mid-December.:mad2:

Actually, you need to leave the tank fallow for 12 weeks... And it is a long time to wait! I had ICK come back after a fallow period of 10 weeks and always wait the 12 weeks now. 3 of 4 tanks are now ICK free, only one more to go...

IME, UV sterilization did absolutely nothing to keep the ick at bay.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll go 12 weeks then. And I was even considering purchasing a UV!

thanks for the tip. glad i asked here. man, that sucks... 12 weeks is a long time, might have to get a bigger hospital tank.
