got a pair of true percs from a LFS near my house, VERY beautiful. almost onyx, ill post pics later. anyways, at night, they sleep on opposite top corners of the aquarium. any reason for that? (i was pleasantly suprised to see the clown wiggle dance a couple times too.)

the next day, i found a H. Crispa that i had to save from another store. he was in a tank with a single flourescent bulb. got him at a good price and hes pretty big. but very bleached. anyways, i acclimated him and put him into the sand, and kind of made a little sand cup for him. clowns havent noticed him yet, but thats no biggie.

within a couple hours he moved onto the rocks. wouldnt be a big deal, but now hes sitting on my shrooms  . no biggie again, my sebae is cooler than the shrooms. not sure why i added this but whatever

so, my other question is, i woke up the next morning again, the lights went on, and the clowns went right back to swimming with each other. but they look like they are trying to get air on them. they (alot) are up at the top rubbing the air on their sides and tail, and sometimes their head. what is this?

thanks in advance

PS i know its hard without pictures, but my camera is broken, ill get some soon.

yeah i guess, it was this morning and i only got to see it with the "dawn" actinics.

im running a 175 w 12k MH on a 30 tall.

checked up on them a couple minutes ago, theyre swimming normal now.

but as to my other questions, why would they sleep as they do (explained above)?

They might still be in the process of establishing dominance/gender. If they were already paired at the LFS, it may take a month or so for them to get comfortable and settle in in your tank. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd be more concerned about the "rubbing" against the air...maybe there's not enough dissolved oxygen in the water or something like that. Probably couldn't hurt to add an airstone or increase surface turbulence to see if it helps.

installed an ASM Mini G skimmer a day or two before they were added.

but yeah today when i checked on them i turned a powerhead up at the surface, but it doesnt look like theyre trying to get air, just rub themselves in it.

the main thing i want is them to find their home! i know its only been a day but its driving me crazy seeing other people say it might not happen...

I have read about clowns taking months to host the single anemone in thier tank.

Abd just the other day my friend called me because he bought a really nice rose anemone, and a pair of true Perculas, and they hosted in his elephant ear mushroom instead of the rose.

Of course, I told him his rose was defective, and I would give him $10 bucks for it, being the nice guy I was...he told me to take a hike...how rude!

yeah no worries.

but they sleep apart? thats really wierd.

and one of them sleeps upside down!!!! either on his side or upside down, its starting to worry me, any ideas?

Big Brother,

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but I'll throw it out there anyways. I have two True Percs (2 1/2" and 1 1/1" respectively) in a fairly new 20L. As you can imagine I am overly meticulious about watching my params and my fish. For the first week I had these two they slept in all different spots in my tank. They have slept near the top by the powerhead, near the bottom near the sick on thermometer, near the top directly across from the powerhead and have finally settled near some base rock about mid level in the tank.

Since settling for the rock in the middle of the tank, the female has begun bobbing in several different directions when she sleeps. In fact at times she ends up straight verticle. I was finally paranoid enough after watching what I though was my fish dying that I jumped out of bed and turned on the light only to have both fish race to the top. So naturally I dropped some food in and they both ate like the pigs they are. Everytime I have caught her sleepy I witness the same thing from her, but not from the male and I can only take it as a personal difference between the two fish.
