Cowrie snail

OK, I bought one of these the other day because I thought it looked nice. Then I noticed that an algae or something was growing on it.

After some reading, I realize that this snail has a 'mantle'.

those are good algea grazers right?...if so i need to give one a try

Yeah.....it's eating my coraline like it's going out of style. As soon as the params on my tank at home stabilize, he's going home to a tank full of algae.

I got 2 or 3 in as hitchhikers on some live rock back in 2000. One of them is still living. I only see it at night.

Here's another I took but didn't have a chance to load. The mantle had closed (opened) completely, but by the time I got the camera out, it was opening (closing) again.

Here's another one that is sad proof that my Hifin has gone on to the big reef in the sky. He wouldn't have let all these pods dirty up his glass.....they're absolutely everywhere!!!
