CPR aquafuge 2 (HOB refugium) on 29 biocube

I have the CPR aquafuge 2 medium on my 29 biocube. After running it for 4 months I noticed some problems.
What I had in there was a deep sand bed, purigen, chemipure elite, chaeto, and a Tunzee 9002 skimmer.
Normally without the CPR aquafuge the water would flow into the first chamber then into the second, The second chamber is where I would put the filter floss. Because the CPR aquafuge pulls water into the powerhead, in the first chamber, there is no good place to put the filter floss. I tried putting the filter floss on the top area of the 1st chamber but realized it prevented good flow, for the surface of the water, therefore creating a cloudy surface in the display.
The CPR was great in creating pods, but i learned that pods grow where there is a lot of waste, the CPR did just that! collected a lot of waste, there was no good place to put filter floss, I even tried putting it in the return box of the CPR. But that doesnt prevent all the detrious from getting in the CPR. I was scared to siphon the deepsand bed.
Then I got a algae outbreak in my display. I took off the CPR and realized that column 1 and 2 and 3 in the biocube were full of detrious. So i had to siphone all that out. With the CPR hanging on the biocube, it is very hard to siphon the back area of the biocube. Therefore collecting detrious in an area that is hard to clean. After taking the CPR off I put an eggcrate on the 2nd column and some filter floss. The current is very strong from the 1st colomn to the second, it drops from the top into the 2nd. So putting a filterfloss collects most of the Detrious and junk, preventing to from landing on the bottom of the back columns. The CPR actually makes the system run less efficient. And leaves a lot of room to collect junk in hard to clean places.

The question I have is, why do you need all of this stuff? Throw the 9002 in one of the compartments and be done with it. If you have a good sand bed and LR, you need no further filtration. Over the years, I have learned to just make my system as simple as possible. Refugiums, UVs, reactors, etc. - none of them do it for me and my system doesn't suffer one iota. Just my two cents.

Heard from numerous people that chemipure elite, and purigen or great for the system, and I know a skimmer is good, and the same with chaeto, for all the reason that are common knowledge by now,
But I actually got the CPR through a trade, so i used it, and 29 biocube turned in to a 33 gallon, it basically added almost 4 gallons of water, which I thought would be helpful, for a more stable system.
And I have a bare bottom display, I thought the deep sand bed would help in the refugium, but there were a lot of mixed reviews about this, most said that small amount of sand in the refugium would really make a difference, I just put the sand in because it positioned the 9002 where i needed it, the guy i bought the 9002 took off the magnet...GG haha

Hi i was thinking about putting the CPR Aquafuge on my biocube 29 too. Can you explain how you have this setup? on the back? If you have a few pictures that would be super helpful.

Thanks!
