CPR AquaFuge and BioCube

I'm thinking about buying the CPR AquaFuge for my 29 gal BioCube. I'm wondering if anybody has attempted to use the CPR AquaFuge on a 29 gal BioCube? Which size did you use (they come in small, medium and large) and what modifications did you have to make for it to fit into the tank? I would appreciate any in site, help and ideas.

Thanks

why dont you just scrape the paint off the back of the tank where the center chamber is and get the mini aqua light, that attaches to the back of the tank ? instant fuge just like on the new models of the 14 and 29 gal gal bio cubes they also have a 5 watt uv that replaces the hose between the pump and return to the display in the 3rd chamber

i think the medium is just plug and play on the biocube 29. i think its a good way of adding a little more water vol. to the tank and keeping everything seperate.

ihavtats29 where can you find the mini aqua lights?

nvdiv I knew the measurements were right for the medium aquafuge but I wasn't sure of how I would have to modify the top to fit once I added the aquafuge?

Thanks for the help and ideas. I'm new to this even though this tank has been sit up for over a year. It was my daughters and when she lost interest it just sat there for awhile but now the bug has bitten me. Any thoughts or ideas are helpful and greatly appreciated.

why not just add a system to the stand area?
bigger skimmer, heater, and much larger refugium

ihavtats29 thanks for the link and I think I can easily work with that idea.

MPevine11 I think this is a great idea and the ultimate project for a biocube. I'm a little intimated at this point with a project like that one. I've watched several youtube videos where people have done this but not sure if I have the skills for it. Do you have any plans for this? How did you do the pluming? What kind of issues are there with overflow and flooding if the power goes out? Beautiful tank and thanks for the picture!

Well, I ordered the AquaFuge yesterday. I guess I'll learn as I go. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas. I'll try to take pictures and post. I'm new to reef keeping and forums but I'll learn. :fun2:

Aquafuge 2

Aquafuge 2

I have the aquafuge 2 medium on my 29 biocube. After running it for 4 months I noticed some problems.
What I had in there was a deep sand bed, purigen, chemipure elite, chaeto, and a Tunzee 9002 skimmer.
Normally without the CPR aquafuge the water would flow into the first chamber then into the second, The second chamber is where I would put the filter floss. Because the CPR aquafuge pull water into the powerhead, in the first chamber, there is good place to put the filter floss. I tried putting the filter floss on the top area of the 1st chamber but realized it prevented good flow for the surface of the water, therefore creating a cloudy surface.
The CPR was great in creating pods, but i learned that pods grow where there is a lot of waste, the CPR did just that collected a lot of waste, there was no good place to put filter floss, I even tried putting it in the return box of the CPR. But that doesnt prevent all the detrious in the CPR. The deep sand bed wasnt suffiencient to get rid of all that detrious settling on the bottom.
Then I got a algae outbreak in my display. I took off the CPR and realized that column 1 and 2 and 3 in the biocube were full of detrious. So i had to siphone all that out. With the CPR hanging on the biocube, it is very hard to siphon the back area of the biocube. Therefore collecting detrious in an area that is hard to clean. After taking the CPR off I put an eggcrate on the 2nd column and an filter floss. The current is very strong from the 1st colomn to the second, it drops from the top into the 2nd. So putting a filterfloss collects most of the Detrious and junk, preventing to from landing on the bottom of the back columns. The CPR actually makes the system run less effecient. And leaves a lot of room to collect junk in hard to clean places.
