CRAAAAZY weather right now....

Yeah...the wind was amazing as was the lighting show. We had some pops, but the power never went completely off...Did see a transformer "fry" across Harlem in Summit...what a show.
Still doesn't hold a candle to the storm I encountered the last week of June in Lead Hill, Arkansas. Imagine twice as much lighting and straight line winds so strong that they picked up a 32 foot travel trailer and moved it about 3 feet. I already knew what was coming and was working hard to get my hubby out of bed (proof positive he really could sleep through just about anything) when we got picked up and moved. What a weird/ scary feeling that was!! All at 2 in the morning, in the middle of nowhere, no power and the NOAA weather alert radio I keep with me at all times blaring alerts like crazy. Luckily for us we were able to get to the storm shelter where we keep a air bed, lanterns, water, food, dry clothing, blankets...just about everything we would need to wait out the storm...The craziest part was that we listened to the local news station and they had NO CLUE that this was coming. No rain was forecast and it just happened in a matter of an hour of so when 2 storm cells converged out of no where.
I'm glad I got a new roof and gutter put on last month....talk about an "acid test" everything held tight.
I hope everyone else made it through alright.

Did anyone notice a lot of "ball" lighting? We had quite a bit of it out here (I'm 3 miles west of Midway Airport). It's rare around in this part of the country...mostly a desert phenomenon.

OK, its 4:20pm Tues. I'm still under a mattress under the basement stairs in my safe "room"/space. Peeking out I see daylight. Can I come out now???? :eek1:

If your under a mattress how are you posting on RC  but it's safe. . .4 now :)

Yeah, last night's weather activities here in Streamwood were pretty intense, to say the least... the air raid sirens being played three different times added a nice to touch, not to mention the swirling clouds up in the green sky. Luckily, we never lost power - or any of our fish.

I really do think its time to start looking into getting a house generator though. In the meantime im ordering a battery powered air pump to atleast give me a little time if the power goes out.

Wow...what a storm! I'm a little disappointed that BigNick didn't post a severe weather thread. :(
