Crab trap for 'smart' crabs

I have this Aqua Medic Pest Trap: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/aqua-medic-trap-pest.html

Unfortunately, my pest Stone Crab that I am trying to catch is too smart for it. He walks in, grabs the bait, then turns around, lifts the dangling arm things and walks out.

He hasn't fallen for the tipped wine glass / flute approach either.

Is there some other design out there that has been proven to work effectively? I am considering just setting up a fish trap and waiting there for him, but could take hours of sitting there holding a fishing line waiting to drop the door.....

I have looked at commercial crab traps, but the holes look too large and/or the actual trap is way too large.

I'm in the same boat. I haven't fed my tank anything for a couple months trying to starve him out. I saw him the other night.

I've had a vase leaning against the rocks for 3-4 months and now it's covered with biofilm/algae. I'll try baiting him again and see if 'aging' the glass trap might help.

I have that, i just didn't want to sit there for who-knows-how-long waiting for him to go in there.

then again, usually my bait is gone within an hour, so could be reasonably short.

Yup. I use them for mantis shrimp too. Shrimp is excellent bait.
