I have a glass 225. 72Lx30hx24d. It has been stored for a bit. Well it got cracked. Do i need to replace the whole back panel of glass or can i patch it from the inside. I have a peice of glass that is wired that will more then cover the the crack.

Much cheaper than a new floor. 1800 lbs of pressure on that crack? (8 lbs per gallon) No.

Ok point taken. 2nd question... worth time and effort? Ive done a 10.g before. (Only because i had a spare tank and wanted to try doi g it).But this is much much bigger.

Where would you be putting it when you're done?

If this were going to be outdoor someplace, or in a laundry room with a drain in the floor I'd say maybe. Would 225G of water crashing out of this thing ruin things where you'd want to put it? If so, I wouldn't try to repair it.

That's a huge tank, and a lot of pressure on the seals, I think I'd want it professionally done, and it would likely be cheaper to just find a similarly sized used tank.

I think it would probably be cheaper to replace the tank. You can probably find one off CL for 1/2 the price it would cost to pay someone to repair it. I don't advise DIYing it, because from what I understand, to get the glass in place, perfectly, in the short amount of time allowed before the adhesive sets (and you need adhesive not sealant), it would take multiple people. The chances for a screw up are really big when you have a panel that large. And as others have already pointed out, a new tank is cheaper than replacing your floor, walls, wiring, furniture, TV, etc.

haha, well since it is the back panel, just wrap the whole back piece in it, then you have a sealed tank, and a black back ground, thats a win win in my book

A little bubble gum here and there wouldn't hurt either..
The giant pink bubble that could form would also be an excellent indicator that the seal is starting to fail.

Note: It must be Big League Chew :)

I'm guessing the new piece of glass alone would almost make it not worth it. Plus if you don't reseal it right you'll still have all that water on the floor.

Paying someone to do it would be even more expensive.
