I just noticed a crack in the black trim around my 80 gallon rimless reef tank. I can't even sleep, debating draining all the water into brute buckets tomorrow. I don't know when it happen. Is this something I should be concerned about?

I've read it's not a concern, but personally I would call the tank manufacturer for your answer. It appears it's a tight fit on your stand in that corner. Not sure if this is a DIY stand, but a DIY'er has to remember that wood expands and contract due to humidity and temperature changes. Most of the country is turning to fall and with the colder temps and less humidity one can expect that the wood will contract.

Hey, I just noticed how tight it looks. I do have a inch on the back, so i could push it back a little but then i do not know that opens a can of worms. I was thinking about draining it And letting it up to check it out but i don't know if its that much of a concern.

Those flimsy braces all crack eventually. Depending on who you listen to it's either of no concern or compromises the integrity of your tank.

That appears to be a suspended bottom tank that rests on the brace. Since the brace is captive within the stand I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I removed the cracked braces from my current tank ten or so years ago and it's predecessor was braceless for a similar period.

Was your tank a rimless?

No. The tanks I experienced broken bottom bracing with were not rimless. Well they weren't before the plastic cracked, the one I still keep is now.

Do the manufacturers use a different material for the bottom brace of rimless aquariums?
