Cracked Glass.. :(

I walked into my room to find my aquarium's glass has a huge crack and is leaking water. I have black silicon that I'm using to seal it... but will need to replace the aquarium it seems? If I replace the aquarium and add all my rock/livestock to the new one with live sand will I have to wait another six months before adding an anemone/corals to my tank or will this timeframe be shortened?

You may see a mini-cycle from moving everything (so keep Prime or Amquel handy), but everything should settle back down after a week or so.

Thank you. I kinda ignored the more important question - is this sealant going to enter my tank? I don't see any of it entering and none came off when I scratched so I'm hoping I'm good?

I called my LFS and they said I should be good especially if I use the same water. Drain as much as possible was their advice.

Assuming you used all the sealant on the outside, it can't work its way in since the water pressure is trying to push it out. However, I wouldn't count on that as even a short-term fix. Especially if the crack spreads.

Thank you!
I ordered a tank stand earlier today since the tank is on a bureau it probably shouldn't be on (It started out as a 1/3 full crab terrarium and expanded).
I'm hoping it holds out until that comes in and I can transfer everyone to a new tank. I have tons of towels stacked.

Worst case I'll be putting them In 5 gallon buckets with my battery air pumps and heaters I guess

I wouldn't wait for the tank to crack further. How big of a tank do you have that has cracked? How long before your new one arrives? I would get a Rubbermaid stock tank or something else now. You sure don't want a large volume of water leaking in your house.

Yeah, I wouldn't take a risk and transfer everything into a Brute garbage can, Rubbermaid container, or otherwise suitable plastic container until you get the new tank.

As for cycling - you don't have to cycle the new tank if you keep everything that is in the old one wet and alive. I have set up many tanks without cycling at all just by using live rock and sand from established systems. Just be a bit careful with feeding in the first few weeks after the move.

I ended up running to petco to get a new 20 gallon tank. Put all the live rock in there and about 6 gallons of water that was left in the tank. The crack was fine at first and then after an hour just expanded and water was coming out. Added live sand two days ago so it's just finishing settling.

Definitely going to be careful like you said with feeding.
Thank you!

I feel your pain. I woke up a couple months ago to my small freshwater tank having leaked out all over the floor. Somehow I was able to save all the adult livestock, but lost my brood of guppy fry.

Hopefully things start improving for you quickly.
