cracked tank, help!

hopefully they will turn it around. even a refund on the price i paid for the tank will make me a happy customer, so i can go buy another from my LFS and pay the extra.

but yes "you get what you paid for" it exactly what ran through my mind the second i heard the crack.

i will keep everyone informed of what happens, and fingers crossed they will do the right thing, considering it is WELL within my consumer rights to get another tank or have a refund as it is defective, and luckily i easily have legal aide who could support me in my claim if it came down to that.

Did you pay cash or cc ?? back charge the cc if they did and let them hammer it out with the cc company. At the very least it will irritate them and force them to jump through the cc backcharge hoops.

i paid with credit card, thanks for the advice, i will look into that option depending on what they say when i hear back from them on monday.

Then I'll talk c**p about their horrible customer service. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

For sure call your CC company if possible, and tell them that you were sold a broken/defective product. Companies win less than half of the time when they credit card companies backcharge an item.

That is very bad service on their part. Maybe the best thing to do is deal with the LFS that you brought it from. Have them deal with the company. They should have more pull then you.

No LFS involved.. direct to the manufacturer.
 
Funny thing is, I was planning to upgrade my setup to a 280 starphire with my Christmas bonus and use my 100 as a sump, but no way I'm going to buy it from them now.

If they don't want to replace the tank I would call your credit card company and start the arbitration process.

If this fails you can always try to replace the broken panel, it's gonna be expensive but always cheaper than replacing the tank.
 
Well I hope they prove us all wrong and show proper customer service tomorrow when I hear from them again. But from all the things I've read I chose the wrong company to buy from with regards to customer service.

I'm still working on a decent photo, I'm back at work so will try tonight.

i did the best i can. the room its in doesn't get a great deal of direct sunlight, and i dont have the steadiest hand when it comes to my awful camera.....

give me some new advice on the crack now there are better photos?? let me explain the crack a little better, if i tried i could quite easily just pull that big chip out. its lose in there, but never leaked, and i drained the tank to just below the crack.

im considering selling the tank on craigslist if worst comes to worst as a reptile tank....? would be awesome for a iguana right?

I had a similar thing happen to a tank I bought from another dealer except this was clearly my fault. The tank was a 30X30X60 starphire tank and wasn't cheap, not to mention I had to haul it back from canada. The owner of that company offered to stop by home enroute to delivering another tank in the area and replace the glass. I woould pay for the glass. I decided to do it myself with regular glass since it was the rear panel anyhow. It wasnt that difficult to remove the back panel ( unforunately the overflows were a nuisance) and silicone in a replacement piece purchased locally. What this rambling response is getting around to saying is if you don't get any satisfaction from the company and don't wnat to purchase a new tank you CAN fix it yourself. I wouldn't even consider not repairing it.
 
ha ha yeah Tom isn't going to give you your money back without a fight. File a chargeback, send pictures to your CC company, and hope. It may be reversed, depending on your company.... I don't think he's actually ever covered a tank, there is always an excuse, like it wasn't sitting on a foam pad, or he doesn't cover structural damage... he doesn't cover leaks either... living in TN... I wouldn't spend a dime with GC.

Why would anyone buy from him if he operates like this?
 
less than half the price of other makers...

there success rate is better than 50%. you could literally buy 2 tanks and hope 1 is good and come out even.
 
or just buy one from a better manufacturer who will honor a warranty/guarantee and not have to worry about it; however, to me, from the pics you posted, it's hard to tell that's a crack. It looks like someone just chipped the corner of it.

I priced tanks, GC was 1500. another well known maker, out of canada... was almost 4grand.

thats no drop in the bucket...

btw, I went used. cheaper than anything.
