Craiglist Rip-offs

I'm fairly happy with my craigslist purchase. I was out of the reef scene for several years, but had a nice 150g for a while. Getting back into I searched CG for a while, found a lot of good deals and finally settled on what I have now. It was 1400 for a working system, 135 gal. It didn't have a lot of rock, but a really good start it is fairly good rock too along with the sand. It also came with a ton of other stuff from MH lighting to the stand. I got the sump, a chiller, protein skimmer, 2 large return pumps, all the plumbing, live stock and even an RO system with a 55gal water storage container and 2 30 gallon storage containers, 4 5gal jugs for water storage and the list goes on and on.

I feel I got my money's worth out of the 1400. However, hind sight is 20/20 and since I'm starting to customize my tank, where it sits and so on, when all is said and done, I probably didn't save much. That said, I will have lots of extra stuff as I change out and replace and I'm sure this stuff will not go to waste.

Oh yeah, FYI - the guy was originally asking 1700 for the system.

who cares... its buy and sell, if u want it buy it, if its too expensive, dont buy it... how is it a rip off? they would need to mislead you ie, saying its brand new, and it being used, etc to be a rip off...

and btw, i've had killer deals on CL.. premium LR, over 300 pounds for $50 bucks and got free fish and inverts with it...

I dont agree at all with your statement dphil, unless you are far from a city there is always super cheap aquarium supplies on craigslist. I got my sump for 35 dollars, basically brand new retails for over 150. There are lots of people who do sell at prices like you posted, but there is enough out there that it isnt really a valid statement to say craigslist has a epidemic of sorts.. just my opinion.. you can find new cars at new car prices or used at used car prices.. just depends on the post you look at.

Ive got my 100 gal acrylic tank, stand, canopy, and sump on CL for 20% of retail, and its only 6 months old. No bites at all.

Maybe people think something is wrong because its priced to sell
