Crazy Colors LPS thread.

Not the most colorful but under full lighting.

I'm just trying to make a point here. I'm not the one claiming to have "amazing, super rare expensive corals"

When what appears to me to be a coral seller, posts pics of their "Gems" with obviously manipulated pictures, it just seems a bit dishonest. As some folks stated way back at the start of this thread "No Actinic only, thats cheating"

For example, here we have a pretty common Green Rose Brain, under VHO with a heavy mix of Actinic, but with some 10k as well:

Now the same pic after Photoshoping, with increased Saturation and Blue Color Balance similar to what is seen in the pics previously mentioned:

When the water itself is glowing neon purple, I call BS.

gh0st: I believe the "gems" your talking about are my pictures of my acans. First of all you start by making fun of my pictures and saying they are photoshopped, they are absolutely not! I did just buy a canon d50 and a 100mm macro lens, this camera is very complicated and i have not spent the time to learn the camera (i just point and shoot and do nothing else but add the reefgems name on photobucket and resize to the proper size). These are standard things necessary for posting. Have you never seen super colorful acans??? Trust me they are just as crazy in person.

Having said all of that... i have never once claimed to have "super rare expensive coral". I have never sold a single piece of coral. I am a true collector. Thats my word and you don't know me or the time i have put into this hobby. Taking pictures that look as good as mine take a long time with my poor photo skills, it also takes time to resize and post these pics. It would be nice to see a little appreciation because I am trying to share a little back with the community that tought me how to reef. Check out my posts I try to help, look for advise, and post pics of my eye candy for everyone else to see.

you called me dishonest... because i post some cool pictures, i don't care if the background looks blue... all i have to say is that you must really be a hater man.

here is the controversial pic again along with others of the same acan, oh and btw i looked at the time stamp on the first one and it was taken at 3:30pm, so with all of my t5's on...

the red acan in the background is the same as the one above

GreshamH: right you are, i do have a canon 50D! thanks, i don't even know how to photoshop nor do i have the time, its funny to think my simple point and shoot style with such a complicated camera can get such heated reactions, lol

the babies in this photo are SUPER crazy! i just couldn't get a super good pic :(

Nice shots and corals Reefgems! :) If your not using a tripod it would be a good next investment to go with the 50d and 100mm

ha ha thanks!!! i actually sent the 100mm back 2 weeks after i got it. took these pics during the first and only two weeks i had the camera/first lens, b&h took the lens back and now i'm gettin the IS version :) anyway with the return i ordered a tripod and a vivatar wireless shutter, so i can be across the room with the camera on a tripod and autofocus and shoot, absolutely no vibration, just give me some time

Ah, New Camera Syndrome explains alot.

The pic with all the lights on looks much more accurate. Thank you for posting it.

My apologies if I came on a little strong, but the purple halo got my "Chop and Shop" sense tingling, and with the huge number of Etailers who get a huge Acan Colony for $50, run it through a bandsaw, call it aquacultured and sell it for $500 a head after posting "enhanced" pics on forums, I just wanted to see more "real" pictures.

Fortunately, we are not selling corals here. I too, hate some of the photo manipulation that goes on. Main reason, I still go into LFS, so I can see the thing with mine own eyes! LOL

gh0st: these acans are unfortunately much much more than $50 for a huge colony!!! I can assure you my pictures are real, these acans are truly CRAZY!!! thats why i'm posting here :) as far as the lighting of the pics...

the first one was actually taken at 3:36pm so with all my t5's on, i run ATI Powermodules under grim reefers recommendations for par, ATI and UVL bulbs, indirect sunlight, fixtures high above the water, shallow culture

the second was taken at 1:09am so its not with any lights on, just a powerbrite shot with flash i think (this is another shot of it i took at the same time)

how about real highlighter yellow/green acans?? these two are different pieces but both have that highlighter yellow/green with orange etc. i feel like these are some of the coolest and rarest/brightest of the acans and i don't see much of them. what do you think, got anything like these????? i can understand if you don't think the color is real, but i assure you its WAYYY better in person!!!

these last two are the same but different than the first highlighter yellow/green one
