Few other pics.. all about 2 months old, when my 300 was started.

This one started to take off when I moved it up about 5 inches..totally changed on me, serious growth and a lot of pe. I took a chance on this, bought it at Petclub, off all places.

<a href="http://s576.photobucket.com/user/booman_13/media/before%20and%20after/Petclub.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss202/booman_13/before%20and%20after/Petclub.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo Petclub.jpg"/></a>

Garf was moved up as well, looking real good.

Mertensii is over a foot wide.. don't know about this thing. its growing to fast.

<a href="http://s576.photobucket.com/user/booman_13/media/before%20and%20after/IMG_2646.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss202/booman_13/before%20and%20after/IMG_2646.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2646.jpg"/></a>

FTS, I have over 50 acro frags in this tank, cant wait for it to fill out. All are encrusting pretty nicely and showing good growth.

<a href="http://s576.photobucket.com/user/booman_13/media/before%20and%20after/IMG_2682.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss202/booman_13/before%20and%20after/IMG_2682.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2682.jpg"/></a>

Very nice indeed. Interesting. My Turbinaria is higher up and I get decent growth. I am wondering if it needs less light.

Thanks guys, yeah the turb has always been on the bottom. Getting great growth where he's at. Most of my Lps is in the lower parts of the tank, some I had to put into shade, like my alien eye chalices were bleaching and not getting thick and fat instead wrapping around the rock like Saran Wrap. Once shaded they're doing a lot better.

Patience is a virtue in this hobby, but damn can it grow it alittle bit damn faster :)! I have some sticks that are around 3-5 inches, but they look so damn small in this tank.

Here's a little video on how I do a water change on my 300 every 10 days. Like all reefers, I hated doing water changes and felt like a chore. So I made a semi automated water changer. No more spilled water or towels on the floor. No stress to inhabitants of the tank and exposed corals out of the water due to a lower water line. It literally takes 10 min or less to change 45 gallons of water. I'm pretty happy with it. I just need to finish out my water station build out in the garage. Video is a little boring, but its short :)

Crazy Growth!

Well, I started all of my acroporas at 1" and it took a year for them to encrust and turn into mini colonies that is if they adapt well to my system. I still have some frags that has only encrusted and takes forever to grow branches. I never bought anything bigger than 2" because I am too cheap to spend it on mini colonies. The ones that I got bigger from tank breakdowns I end up choping and growing from 1" frags. I would not do it any other way. The challenge is to create a full blown 300 gallon eight foot reef tank with 1" frags. Each inch of new growth is an accomplishment for me and any frags that grow big and suddenly stn over night just humbles me and brings me down to earth. That is why I am not easily impressed with tanks that has mostly lps and zoas. I can grow a jungle of them in a year and try to pass myself as a good reefer. With acroporas the playing field is different and it seems to separate those with a blue thumb and not. And it takes many years to build that dream.

Funny, frags are not cheap either :). I have holes in my pockets. Frags ranges from $20 up to $75. I bought around 50 the past 2 months. My wife been giving me the evil eye :). I raided Tim's tank this past weekend, and came home with some nice pieces.

Tim has great frags. I had never killed any of his frags - knock on wood. Frags are definitely the only way to go because sps are pricey. Luckily I don't share a bank account with my wife. She just look the other way. I usually go on the frag binge early spring. I wish I can do it now but I am still 6 modules away from completing my led purchase.

tim does have amazing frags.
i somehow managed to kill the strawberry shortcake frag he gave me, the only one of 6 or 7 to die.
that is the 4th time i have killed a ssc frag, i'm done trying!

nice sump. that is not the stock stand, is it?
the 300 dd is my dream tank. i'm thinking of reinforcing my floor this summer...

No not the stock stand, about 5 inches taller. Wouldn't have fit my sump and skimmer if I used the stock., check out my build thread... shows how I built it.

Look what I found, a picture from 14 years ago. My second Reef Tank. One thing I stayed true to is using a an Ecosystem Refugium Method . Notice my chiller on top of the tank :)

Still using the liverock in that tank to this day..All equipment was bought at Exotic Aquarium in the late 90's.

<a href="http://s576.photobucket.com/user/booman_13/media/Old%20School%20Aquarium/100-0019_IMG2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss202/booman_13/Old%20School%20Aquarium/100-0019_IMG2.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo 100-0019_IMG2.jpg"/></a>

I also use it for my Mr. Aqua 12 Gallon Long Nano, a Ecosystem Model 2410, which is a 20 Gallon sump, with a Bubble Magus NAC 3.5 skimmer and 10lbs of Miracle Mud w/ Caulerpa. Which I bought from Robert (GrizFyrFyter) works perfect.

I did not even know Turbinaria came in that color, what a beautiful piece.

Me either, bought that piece over a year ago from guy breaking his tank down in Sonora Ca. It was a size of a half dollar. At first I though it was a stunner, until it started to get the color back. Funny a few times I tried to sell it with no takers when the colors was really bland. Now I'm glad it didn't sell.
