Thailand is one place you absolutely do not want to try that!!!
One way trip to a Thai prison for a long time!

Those permits are a real bureaucratic nightmare and it is virtually impossible for an individual to export or import legally from a country or origin while travelling on a vacation.
If someone has done it I'd like to know about it.

I often go Thailand, but its from my experience 100% impossible to get anything though Thai customs - but its easier from Indonesia- but U still need all the proper permits and Cites etc. But still impossible to bring home yrself - but u can order and pay, then they will ship when local authorities agree.

Even Chatuchak market in BKK have visits frompolice, because they sell stoneycorals.
My wife is Thai, so we have tried to speak to goverment - but they are really not very listening.....

Thailand has BANNED/ restricted transactions that farang (foreigners) cannot do. Animal husbandry is one. Which means any foreigner that gets caught performing any of the Black List Restrictions (even w/ paperwork) will be forcibly removed from country (or imprisoned) and all asserts in that country seized and will NEVER be allowed to enter Thailand again, not even for tourism.
My wife is Thai also, that is one country that does not play around.
